What is wrong with people that when someone falls they laugh and heckle them? Apparently during the Miss Universe pageant a contestant (MIss USA) stumbled at the ceremonies and was heckled terribly. What made that funny? The judges were fair, but the audience continued during the interview segment to taunt her. She must have overcame it somewhat because today it is reported that she was the fourth runner up.
I discussed this with my students this morning because often they feel like they are the ones that are harrassed as they don't learn as well or aren't supermodels. This just goes to show that the world can be a cold, hard place for anyone. It is sad really that this is what the world is coming to....Any thoughts?

These girls are trading on their looks for fame and fortune, expecting the world to praise them for good genetics and annorexic bodies. I have no sympathy. She chose to parade her body for the masses, and should have practiced walking in those shoes on that type of surface and in that dress BEFORE she got up in front of cameras. I think the film clip was hysterically funny.
I will say one thing in her favor: she got up as quickly as she fell, and acted like nothing had happened, which was more dignified than what I would have done (run out of there and move to Australia!).
I fell off a stage once...recently actually...I was giving awards to students...the auditorium packed with parents, students, teachers, district administration.....and WHAM....not kidding....wished I had died....LOL
