Michael Vick is in serious trouble. He has been indicted in the dogfighting case, and now there are reports that one of his co-indicted pals is turning states' evidence. Like most, I am a bit disgusted by the dog fighting allegations, and a bit disgusted as well by Vick's apparent lack of intelligence to even get himself in the cross hairs on this issue, when he could easily have avoided it.
Today I learn that the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP has dedicated itself to getting Michael a fair shake. In a press conference today, R.L. White, President of that Chapter, declared that Michael has been unfairly vilified and judged in advance of his trial. Georgia State NAACP President Edward Dubose added his voice, noting that Vick has provided valuable community service to Georgia and should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
NAACP, it is my contention that you do not know who your friends are. M.L. King Jr. would have had no problem leaving this one alone, but you choose to jump aboard a sinking ship. Please recall that one of those "A"s in your acronym stands for "Advancement". How does taking the side of a likely future convict further the progress of the African American ethnic group? If you truly wish to advance the future prospects of black americans, please stand up with the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in his efforts to rid the league of those who are carried away by the romance of thuggery, a romance that rebounds to the detriment of the black community everywhere. Yes, know your friends. Michael Vick has so far not been one of them.

Would we have been able to overcome racism (to the extent we have) if we would have waited for every racist to be individually convicted of violating the Civil Rights Act or anti-discrimination laws?
Absolutely not.
Some people black or white don't deserve special treatment. If he's innocent, he should stand up before a jury of his peers.
