I couldn't help but think back to the visit his vile bunch of haters made to Delaware. Kristin Harty recalls the event in the Wilmington News-Journal
today:
Demonstrators from Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church huddled together with their signs. "God Hates Fags," "Fags Doom Nations,""Thank God for Dead Soldiers," some of the signs read.
Then one of the demonstrators smiled and spit on the American flag.
Thankfully for the family of Cpl. Cory Palmer, the town of Seaford poured out into the streets to counter the Kansas group's disgusting display. The town made sure the location of the protest was out of view from where friends and family paid their respects to Cory. A funeral for a fallen hero is surely a sad event, but thanks to many Seaford residents, it was also a proud day for Delaware as over a thousand folks stood up for their own.
It wasn't just Seaford residents. Ms. Harty doesn't mention the efforts of 370+ Patriot Guard Riders
, who helped to cancel
the sick vitriol from Phelps' haters.
Marine Corporal Cory Palmer, 21, died on May 6, 2006 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Tex., from wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar Province. One of Delaware's own, and a true hero.

IS THIS THE WAY TO HONOR OUR DEAD?Why did they start to focus on those who could no longer speak for themselves? Those who had Paid the Ultimate Price with their service and blood . Why have those sanctimonious, Biblical perverting, Cowardly mass of protoplasm's disguised as human HOMO-sapiens focused on the brave men and women slain while providing a platform of freedom?
Oh you low life excuse for humanity. Defamation of the living will bring litigation, So you have chosen to ATTACK OUR DEAD HERO'S. Someone commented that, "Hatred is based on ignorance". Dare I add, "The vine yards and the graveyards are full of ignorant folks, waiting their turn in HELL."
The Sacred Sanctity of the Grave Site is the very last place to protest. Veterans world wide feel betrayed at such debauchery. Any morally upright human being would fear the wrath of the Creator if they knowingly DESECRATED a Funeral, the final resting place, and the grieving family.
The highest degree of pressure should be applied to ALL Those who are running for President of the United States, and our Governmental bodies to ensure that the unrighteous rev Fred Phelps and his gang cease and desist.

Do yu think the judgement against these passionate bigots will be upheld?
this is a sacrilige.
It's really a shame what little respect people have for the deceased - whether it's Phelps' group or the people in Lemont, IL that tried to build a highway on top of a graveyard. We need to be reminded of our values and humanity. Those seem to be lost these days.
Living less than a day's drive from the Phelps, we get more than our fair share of "visits" from this group of ... (best not use that word here.)
Good article and thanks for the heads-up on a radical group of hate-mongers. It's the first I've heard of them.
The protests at funerals are a strange and convoluted way to oppose gay rights.
Several of the children or grandchildren are lawyers, so there is a lot of special pleading on behalf of the family's "right" to be stupid and outrageous.

Thank you dear Leslie for not getting me flagged due to explitives which we all feel like saying OUT LOUD, LOL.
Thanks to you Jamie
Peter, your comments hit home at the heart level, thank you!
Gee! Donna K., That's a good question, Yes-Yes and YES!!! Our main focus at this time should be-> The Boots On The Ground! This is not their war, yet it's their jod to fight it, and their Duty to Protect each others Lives while they "DO IT".
They live and Die to ensure a platform for our Freedom. These yahoo's wouldn't have that freedom it is wasn't for the VETERAN.
You -R- Right Lucky M., even Vets don't support it. What happened to the those who Killed over 3000 Men, Women, and Children on 9/11/2001? Why did we open up a new battlefield with those who were not our aggressors??? Don't get me started!!!
Great points of interest Ron, But let's be nice to "The Good" folks from Kansas, after all they have live there...smile the 60's and 70's are over.
I lied and said I waved. She said, "Oh, it looked like you flipped them off."
They do not engage in random protests, and they are not anti-Bush.
The Phelps Family (Westboro Baptist Church) protests are characterized by anti-gay themes.
Their signature picket sign is a huge "God Hates Fags".
They have tried to become active in Republican Party activity in Kansas, but they are too extreme and vocal for any one to co-opt.

The thing that really gets me is that so many religious fundamentalists more-or-less agree with a lot of what Fred is saying (consider Falwell's comments about 9/11, etc.), they just don't like how and where he's saying it.
And I don't think that protesting at fallen soldier's funerals shows much " respect for America's fallen heroes " either, but what else could we expect from an anti-American Communist such as you?
Timothy V., Wil B., and Charles M. we thank you so much for your comments.
Any Family that has been Victimised by MBC, needs to follow up with LEGAL REMEDIES. Let's try some FINANCIAL pressure, Who do you know?
Neither do I. But I don't think "failing to show respect" should be against the law. The government shouldn't get to decide that a protest is illegal just because they don't like what the protesters are saying.
There's nothing un-American about trying to protect free speech.
And there is MY right to free speech.
Now that my blood has stopped boiling, I have to agree with Wil B., in that Fred et al have a right to assemble and speak. The sad, glaring truth here is that Fred's rights to assembly and free speech are bought with the blood of the heroes at whose funerals he protests!
I haven't followed all this particularly closely, but my understanding is that the services Phelps and his gang of religious misfits are disrupting are on public property. If they were on private property, the owner would have the right to insist that they leave, and to have them removed if they don't.
Believe me, Charles, I totally sympathize with the families. As for Phelps, as the old saying goes, if he were on fire, I wouldn't even piss on him to put it out. I don't care about Phelps. I care about free speech, and I care about the dangers created by bad laws.
As much as I respect and admire free speech, I am in favor of "responsible" free speech. Entities and individuals who indulge public lies are subject to prosecution as it should be. Those who incite violence should also be prosecuted. Rights to free speech do not give one leave to hurt others unnecessarily, even with words, never with lies.
I can only hope it can be stopped.
