Potemkin villages were fake settlements erected in 1787 by a Russian official of the same name in order to fool Empress Catherine II into thinking her armies had made important conquests.

Seems little has changed. These days, former president Vladimir Putin and his band would fool the world into thinking Russia is a superpower, a free-enterprise economy and a democracy.

Putin & company have pulled the wool over many eyes, not the least of them being their own countrymen. Last week's election went as scripted. Medvedev "won" an election that was rigged from the start! If I was Diane Francis, author of the article above, I would be in fear of my life....! We all know that Putin's minions prefer [poisons of type or another.

Sandy...........Gee...I have never seen Russia mentioned in the Bible.............in any of the multiple copies I own........in English, Russian, German, Latin or Greek....!

This is quite different point of view from the one WAlker passed on from the Russian ex-pat who considers Medvedev independent... I guess we just have to keep reading and paying attention to how things play out.
