The latest article on climate change in Time magazine:

Sure there are winners and losers in climate change. The losers in the arctic appear to be Reindeer, Walrus, and Polar Bear, among others. Winners? Geese and plants of more temperate regions, which will expand their ranges.
When I glance at that fact: arctic temperatures have gone up nine degrees fahrenheit on average- I say wow. If our temperatures here in Virginia had done that, I could look forward to occasional summer days of 110 degrees, and snow would just about never happen.
Want more bad news? How about the fact that Europe, which has attempted to set an example for the rest of the world's nations, seems ready to start backing away from carbon emission targets. here it is:

When do we ever get encouraging news on climate change? It just seems to go from bad to worse. The planet wide financial meltdown means that it is no longer a high priority for many governments, as the voters in many nations assign it a lower priority than their short term economic interests. It was a hard sell in the first place: the USA has refused to bite the bullet for twenty years, and China is real serious about fighting climate change in the future, yeah just as soon as every family owns a car. "Saving the world for my great grandkids would be nice, but really, if you want me to pay more for energy in order to get there, sorry, screw you." There is nothing like taking the long view. Yeah, what we are doing is nothing like taking the long view. Â

But oh no, I have two daughters. And I would like them to look into the eyes of their beautiful grandchildren before they die. And I am not sure that will work out the way things are going.
" Unusually large amounts of winter snow were followed by unusually chill temperatures in June, July and August."

Information directly challenging that the "Arctic has risen nine degrees fahrenheit",

LONDON - The first half of 2008 was the coolest for at least five years, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) said on Wednesday.

"Recent studies by the Hadley Climate Research Center (UK), the Japan Meteorological Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the University of East Anglia (UK) and the University of Alabama Huntsville show clearly that the rising trend of global average temperature stopped in 2000-2001. Further, NASA data shows that warming in the southern hemisphere has stopped, and that ocean temperatures also have stopped rising."

How can we slow the effects?
Or if things keep going as they are (concerns of global cooling) Florida could become the new hudson bay.
There may be ways to reverse global warming (e.g., artificial trees), but slowing global warming means quickly deploying existing technologies related to renewable energy and energy efficiency. There is no doubt that such deployment will be favored more with democrats, as I referred to in your article.
