American conservative shock-jock Michael Savage now has something in common with Fred Phelps, Yunis Al Astal, and Michael Guzofsky, other than their promotion of hatred of other groups of people. Savage, along with 15 others, is on a list of Britain's "least wanted" - the cream of the crop of people suddenly banned from entering the UK due to their extremist views.
The full list, which totals 101 people, has not yet been revealed.
Says UK Home Secretary Jacqui Smith: "Coming to the UK is a privilege. I refuse to extend that to individuals who abuse our standards and values to undermine our way of life. Therefore, I will not hesitate to name and shame those who foster extremist views, as I want them to know they are not welcome here."
Michael Savage is about as right-wing as it gets in commercial American broadcasting. He's probably more hardcore than Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Glenn Beck. I am admittedly not very familiar with his views. Although, I'm not sure if he's ever advocated violence or illegal activity against any particular group within the US or UK. Maybe someone more familiar with Savage's philosophy could chime in here?

WHO?????
I know LImbaugh by name and the news, same for Hannity, but this one is a new name.....
Gotta love censorship at its best, but then Britain is not a free country either.
Mooch
I suppose it's encouraging that Savage isn't incredibly well-known, even among Republicans. He's famous enough though. If you hadn't heard of him already, you probably would have soon enough. I'm not a conservative, but I can respect the conservative point of view. This guy, though, is truly on another planet.
BUT, England is the birthplace of modern Western society and the one that gave us the first bill of rights among other foundations of Western civilization. Now it has the highest per capita rate of CCTV cameras on public ways, it tolerates homegrown Muslim calls for death and destruction while blacklisting Savage? Have they done away with the right to rant on Hyde's Corner yet?
Sorry, Savage is a lot of things but he's not worthy of a travel ban. England is becoming more like a 3d world nation in it's pickiness on what is still worthy of free speech protections...
I'm thinking that Savage is a walking violation of the slander/libel laws that are not so broad and liberal in England as they are here. Maybe they want to avoid having to arrest him for the BS he constantly spews. If it was in Hyde Park, that is no problem, it is when corporate and other powers get behind someone like this and amplify his voice over others that I see as the human rights issue.
And it's NOT England, it's the UK!
I'd like to hear more about this "violence being plotted by Democrats." So one day they're pacifist ninnies who won't lift a finger to defend the U.S. And now they're all about secretly plotting violence against our own veterans. HA!
And you wonder why everyone thinks Michael Savage and his minions are cuckoo!
Yusuf Islam(Cat Stevens) was denied entry--he's such a scary...oh....moon shadow type of guy......
I think if the most recent Presidential election taught us one thing is that the influence of these hate mongers and other pundits has diminished. They did everything in their power to influence the last election and the American people rejected them.
Seeing this rejection expand across the Atlantic must be very disheartening for those on the Right.
I didn't like Iran's leader speaking here at that college a ways back, but glad our laws allow free speech... even if we "hate" the guy. I would fear all this calling for the banning of "hate speech" becomes so subjective in meaning that our first amendment would be nothing but words; and a slippery slope to tread lightly on. We must be careful what we ask for. The UK should too I think.... but that's just me, it's their thing.
And, guess what? We're still a pretty damn fine group of little countries.
God, when will you foreigners realise that England and the UK are not synonyms?
