I do not remember there being a selection box to check on MY 2008 presidential ballot that said "Let's govern by committee" so why is the previous administration being allowed to drive the conversation?
They were voted OUT and for good reason. Bush had the fewest news conferences, only talked smugly to his "BASE......$$$$" and spent half his time being uninformed or on VACATION, Cheney was MIA for the entire 8 year term, Rumsfeld got fired for his ineptitude, Karl Rove had an office right IN the White House where he orchestrated any number of foul deeds and dirty tricks.
NOW all of a sudden they demand face time with the American public? It is obvious that did so much damage to the GOP with their arrogance, by using the Evangelicals and installing unfit cronies in vital positions that they left NOTHING but ashes for the their party to run a campaign ON.
Still there was also NOT a place on MY ballot that said "Give Bush and Co a do over" so maybe they should FINALLY do the real RIGHT thing and just support the rebuilding of the GOP by lifting up NEW clear voices from within and stop trying to run the Obama White House!
George Bush has garnered SOME respect since he left office by having the sense to be low key and out of our face. Who knew he would end up as actually the only SMART one there was?
Anyone can see that this is just an obvious admission by Cheney and Co that it is because of THEM there is such a dearth of ideas in the GOP. Quite simply it is because for 8 years no one in the party was doing anything but blindly following the party line without doing any thinking or planning of their own. Now they are left with a party trying to be run by spoiled children that can only find fault and nitpick instead of doing any actual WORK to once again earn the right to lead!

They're trying to erode the confidence of the American people in Obama, who is still very popular. Newt Gingerich and his wife have written a book idolizing Reagan and trying to again portray the Republicans as the party of the people. Putting Reagan out there is supposed to make us forget Bush but it will not work.
I agree that this is just partisan rancour. Cheney will not help the GOP regain popularity -- he has the right to his opinions .... but he is not helping. Megan McCain could help, but the previous admin needs to get out of the way.

In this case Cheney had plenty of opportunity and time to address the American voters about what went on during his term. His choice was to sequester himself away from the people and let Rove be the FACE of the administration. Having failed to bother to make his case then his processes were repudiated by the VOTERS in 2008. That boat left the dock in Nov. leaving him retrospectively to try to justify and excuse being woefully inadequate as to his respect for and consideration for the American voters when it might have garnered enough support to help them keep the presidency.

Bush has been "low profile" because he is busy writing his memoirs -- and because he has to ask Laura how to spell most of the words. I think Cheney's efforts to erode America's confidence in Obama (TY Carla!) will backfire. Hopefully when it does, some of the blowback will get him right in his smirky kisser. I think history will identify the Bush administration as being responsible for the demise of the GOP.
