It should come as no surprise to anyone that Jon & Kate Plus 8's season 5 premiere on TLC last night attracted 9.8 million viewers. That's double the season 4 finale and the highest draw to a single TLC episode of any show. Ever. Don't we all just love a good scandal?
In the season 5 opener, Jon & Kate put on a party for the sextuplets 5th birthday and all of us were forced to watch the uncomfortable couple play house for the day. Unconvincing would certainly be putting their performances lightly.
The two are not filmed being interviewed together, a usual element of the show, and instead all of the episode's interviews focused on Jon and Kate speaking separately to the camera and digging in their heels on their respective sides of the battlefield. Kate discusses Jon's "poor decisions." Jon claims that everyone is making stuff up about him.
In preparation for the big Jon & Kate season 5 premiere, US Weekly used Kate Gosselin as their latest covergirl, releasing a scathing story about Kate with before and after photos of her former self (frumpyish mom) to her now glammed, tummy tucked, tanned, white teeth, blond, reverse mulleted (their term, not mine) nasty diva self.
I spoke with several female friends who were disgusted with that article's portrayal of Kate Gosselin. She is being completely shredded by the media to the tune of an Octomom lynching. Is she annoying and a nag. Yes. Is she a monster. No bigger monster than I'd be with 8 kids.
I personally think that Jon Gosselin is the biggest loser on the planet and not the sweet boyfaced victim in this saga?
He married Kate. He knew her flaws. He had twins with her the first time and THEN agreed to do fertility treatments a second time with her resulting in their enormous brood. That was a choice that he made. And I am guessing that some of her controlling and demanding nature was evident before they got married and certainly after the twins were born. And yet he chose to have MORE children with her.
Who I grieve for in all of this is of course the children. The good news is that the Jon & Kate Plus 8 phenomenon has grossed the Gosselins plenty of money to outsource the childrearing to caring and wonderful people who will help those kids in the crapstorm that is brewing.
The bad news is that two people who were adult enough to choose to have 8 children together are acting like children and I don't think they make nannies that can help them.
I could go on for hours. Instead I'll leave you with a few Jon & Kate links to enjoy:Â Â Â Â Â

We live near them or actually further away now that they moved. She is not as sweet and innocent as some claim that she is. She is icy.
I have never understood how people can look at them and think of her as a warm individual. She's just not!
I can't stand that woman, and don't add to her children's exploitation by watching the show.
Am I the only one who hates Jon?
Ever thought that this might be a publicity stunt to keep the ratings up. Seems to weird when lately their ratings weren't that good, that this comes out almost a week later. Weird.
I though that she was pretty mean when she sprayed "foam" on the camera!!
I actually like Kate. I think she is a strong woman to go through everything she has. I think her husband needs to grow set of big ones and actually use them. He needs to stop placing blame on other people and step up to his responsiblities.
