I thought they were still saying that there was an anesthesia in his apartment that could only be administered by IV. If that's the case, I think the doctor has a lot of explaining to do.

Wow!! That would make me so ANGRY!!! I agree with Pamela he probably didn't know it till it reached his scalp, but he looked pissed when he did get the fire out!

The answer to your question is that no, you shouldn't be. People are not savvy as to what is prudent and isn't when doctors precribe meds. If for no other reason, when someone is going to a doctor for a condition that requires treatment, that person is looking to an authority to help them. Sure, there are people who use doctors for anything, but when you've got 3rd degree burns, as in this case, you want to take whatever anlagesics may be necessary to alleviate the pain. Limiting the refills and, as some have pointed out, the IV administration of some meds is solely the responsibility of the physician. By the time pain has subsided enough, there can already be an addiciton, so it's always incumbent on the healthcare provider to be aware and to advise the patient.

A friend of mine was recently prescribed some pretty heavy drug to help with some pain he's had from a knee injuty. Upon reading the possible effects of the drug, he decided that the pain was better to endure than the possible side-effects of the drug. Most people won't do this.

One of my friends' brothers was prescribed Oxycontin when he was a teenager. The parents questioned it, but the doctor said it was fine. Years and years later, he's an addict. It's not fair because he was just a kid and didn't ask for that to happen.

Yep, that's the kind of physician irresponsibility to which I referred. I'm sorry that the parents didn't stand their ground, but if they had, and the child had experienced pain that was not easily endured and caused some other problems, then those parents would probably have been deemed irresponsible in going against doctor's orders. That can be a catch-22, and it is difficult to prove later whether the meds were the cause of current addiction, though Oxycontin has been a drug that has had dozens of lawsuits. Its creator, Purdue Pharma, was a very good client of mine, but I haven't dealt with them for years now because of this awful drug.

Both my kids have had Oxycotin for different reasons....and my kids haven't had issues with it. Yes, one is a teenager. You can't blame a lot of the addictions on the doctors, as it is the patient that doesn't follow the directions on taking the meds.

Oxycontin is the generic name for the drug. ETH-Oxydose, OxyContin, Oxyfast, OxyIR, Percolone, Roxicodone, Roxicodone Intensol are the brand names.

I'm not going to vote on this. I personally think it was both Jackson's and the doctor's fault. The doctors probably pushed drugs on him and he wasn't smart enough to say no. I don't know, I'm just guessing so I won't vote.

I think all parties bear some responsibility. I also believe that we can't blame it on the hair fire because he did go and get help after that. I honestly believe that the true reason for drug use in his case was a need to escape. Can you imagine just how hard it would be if virtually everyone in the country was picking on you even after you'd had your day in court and won? It is no wonder he had trouble sleeping. If things get bad for us we go away or something, but there was no getting away for somebody like him. The press was and still is always there looking a, pulling apart every detail and reporting or misreporting it all to the world. He didn't make a wise choice, but I think that is probably why he made it.

Alot of the time, doctors don't tell you which medications have a high rate of addiction. They just hand you your prescription (or have a medical assistant hand it to you), and you're on your own. This happened with my husband and Vicodin when he had knee surgery. The withdrawal for that was terrible.

i believe both are at fault for the addiction..and now that MJ paid with his life now its the dr's turn to get pay back for what they did.
