Has anyone else noticed a trend with some famous women saying bye-bye to their long luscious locks? Solange Knowles, Beyonce's younger sister, is yet another celebrity to show off a drastically different hair cut. Though she shaved it two weeks ago, the first photo of Solange Knowles' shaved head was taken yesterday by the paparazzi as she brought her son to school.

Here's what she had to say on Twitter about her new hair style:
this. phase. of. my. life. i. want to spend . the time. the energy. and the money. on something else. not in the hair salon.
i. just. wanted. to. be. free. from. the. bondage. that. black. women sometimes. put. on. themselves. with. hair.
Some of you may be thinking, "Big whoop. A celebrity got a haircut." Actually, it means much more. There's a lot of pressure in our society for black women to keep their hair a certain way. Straight hair is what is beautiful. I'm biracial, so I have what is referred to as "good hair". I don't have to relax it, nor do I need a weave. But someone with "nappier" hair has to spend a lot more time and money on it then I do. Who really wants to spend a good chunk of their paycheck at the salon every month?
Solange is being a really positive role model. She shows us you don't need a weave and/or a full head of hair to be beautiful and stylish. Rihanna's in on it too. Check out this photo of her taken last week in London:

In case you forgot, La La Vazquez and Cassie shaved the sides of their heads this year too.

How do you feel about celebrity women shaving their heads? HOT or HOT MESS?

I'm curious to know your hair type. Long hair in general and black hair are two very different things to maintain.
To add on to your point, anything sewn or glued ruins the real hair we already have.
The shaved head on the side things looks like they got in a fight and lost.
