Walgreen's has introduced a medical plan  to provide free health care to the unemployed. Evidently this program has been going on for a few months now. I do hope it will help some of you in the Gather Community.
For the remainer of the year 2009, Walgreens will offer routine treatment and tests via their Take Care clinics for no charge  to those who are laid off. Unfortunately, this offer does not cover prescriptions. Certain restrictions apply, so be sure to check with your local Walgreen's first.
These clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners. They normally charge $59 for a visit. Walgreen's has no idea what the response will be. They currently have 340 clinics across the country.
According to Walgreens official Take Care Clinic site
"The Take Care Recovery Plan
provides care you can count on.
Sacrificing quality healthcare for you and your family should never be an option. As a healthcare provider, we see the effects of a struggling economy on the patients and neighborhoods we serve.
That's why we've created the Take Care Recovery Plan to help our current and future patients*. It provides access to free healthcare visits for our patients, and their families, who have lost their jobs and are uninsured.
We hope just knowing you have a place to turn in tough times will help relieve some of the strain of a sudden loss of income. You can't put a price on peace of mind. The Take Care Recovery Plan promises you won't have to.

*This offer applies to any Take Care Clinic patient that loses his or her job on or after March 31 and has no health insurance. Any other individual that visits a Take Care Clinic as a patient after March 31, and then loses his or her job and is uninsured, may qualify for the offer for the remainder of 2009."
