Best Buy 9.99 TV

OMG, that's hilarious! I think they should honor it. It's their screw-up!

I bought 2 at different times on different credit cards. Breezed through checkout. Had the confirmation numbers and emails, had confirmed delivery dates and they charged my two credit cards.
Now both tv's have been canceled twice, bestbuy has my money and yes. I think they should honor the price. I didn't see anything about them being able not to honor my purchases. I've filed fraud claims with the FTC, FCC, and the attorney general's office. Next I'm calling my credit card companies since no one at bby has the guts to return an email to me.

Seriously - get a life. You KNEW when you bought this that it was an obvious error, and you were clearly trying to take advantage of a mistake on their part. Anyone with half a brain, which apparently you do not have, would know that $9.99 for a TV is wrong. Regardless of their policy, you should have known better and frankly I find you to be an amoral opportunist for trying to take advantage here. As for your claims - get a life, get a job, get real. People like you with this entitlement attitude are the problem with this country. That goes for the rest of you griping about this too. You make me sick.

I remember they did this a couple years ago, and a $1,500 tv was listed for $15.00. I knew several people who ordered it, and I think that's when they instituted the policy of not standing by the prices listed online.

i feel they figured people would be awake because of the meteor shower so they'd post the "mistaken price" so people would rush to order thinking they got in on a great deal....sneaky marketing..i think its a little bit of a stretch for 1699.99 to become 9.99...needless to sayi won't be shopping at best buy again any time soon

That almost sounds like a class-action suit to me, especially since this isn't the first time...that's really an awful thing to do. Talk about wayyy beyond deceptive advertising!

I always thought there was an unwritten customer service rule of honoring marked prices whether it's a mistake or not. I would imagine if they did honor the reduced price there would be far fewer mistakes, right?

How sad that anyone thought they would get something for nothing. It is an obvious mistake and anyone trying to get somehting out of BestBuy is sad and opportunistic. Get a job and buy the TV you can actually afford. You all know that you can't get a new $9.99 Tv from Goodwill. Get a life!

Wow! Brian R.. You went from retail to church in just two sentences. If your slow enough to think you could get that TV for $9.99 you have probably been taken by every sales scam that has ever come along. I'll stay on my high horse thank you (or as I call it, the ability to think), it has brought me much success.

Actually fellas it was really no different than playing the lottery. We place the order, laughing, and hoped to get away with it. I also play the Texas Lotto from time to time when I'm feeling lucky. I own, already, 2 52" LCD tv's and yes I ordered extras during the best buy ordeal in hopes of giving them away or selling them. I am, in fact, an opportunist. I rarely pass up an opportunity to make a good deal, save money or make money. Reckon that's why I am able to afford the two flat screens I already own. My sister makes over $250,000. a year and even she jumped on the wagon. If it weren't for the fact that our personal f%@% ups could get us into a world of trouble or fired from a job everyone would go around doing a half ass job. So the real lesson here is for the person who made the mistake in the first place and for best buy who, as we've discussed, has perfected the art of covering their ass. Keep your eyes open, take advantage of slip ups and f@%@ ups from those companies, why not? Do they not take advantage of us and use our needs and desires to further their business? So timothy, maybe you need a good laugh or a good piece of a$$, I don't know but brother you need to lighten up and enjoy the ride. It's all a game and it's all being made up as we go along. Chill.

I don't think there is anything wrong with attempting to buy the tv for $9.99-even though it was obviously a mistake. I do think it's crazy to get upset and rage over them not honoring the price. You knew when you saw it that it was a mistake, it's not like anyone in their right mind thought it was the true price. Get over it, it was a mistake and they caught it (written to those people who were on the video clip complaining they weren't honoring the price)

A few years ago I bought a guitar cable with a built in volume control from an on line music store for less than half price. The sale went through before they noticed that there was an error in the price table that supported the Web site.

I ordered 2 last night and got the email about it being cancled this morning :(. I heard the first 5 people that ordered it got it for $9.99 and everyone else got rejected. It was there slip up, they should honor it for those who ordered it up until it was corrected on there site.

...where did you hear that 5 people had their orders honored?

They should let everyone have a tv. As much as they make us pay in taxes and everything else we pay. But thats life. That would have been the deal of the day.

Anyway, as far as the whole "I'm outraged because they didn't let me have the TV" thing: First, bestbuy.com has a clause on it stating that they have a right to correct errors at the time they are found and cancel the order at any time, whether the credit card has been charged or not. It's a SMART method of safeguarding against human error.

Secondly, those of you screaming foul and stating that it's false advertising: There is a difference between false advertisement and a "misprint". This was very obviously the latter. They each have their own set of rules. Best Buy was within their legal and moral rights not to honor the misprint. It was an error.
People were in the Best Buy here literally yelling at the managers. That's entirely uncalled for. Those people don't "deserve" anything. They are not "entitled" to anything. Sad, miserable people who really need to wake up and work for what they want.

One of the best stories i have read in a while. I have been rolling about the "crazy" sense of entitlement that so many are demanding, over a MISTAKE. There are zero laws that Mandate that any retailer honor a pricing mistake. They are allowed to correct it.
i read in some areas stores had to call the cops to quiet customers screaming at the top of their lungs they wanted their TV's. OMG that is outrageous.
