Â
I am utterly appalled at those schools that will not allow students to watch or listen to, or feel the need to “approve†before showing, President Obama’s school speech. I feel that as an American citizen it is our right to hear the President’s speech—no matter what age group. The schools do not have the right to censor the President. He is not propagandizing and brainwashing students with a “socialist†political agenda, he is simply giving them a hope and a drive to work hard and continue their education. Â
In Obama’s school speech, according to the transcript released Monday by the White House, he says, “I’m calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education—and to do everything you can to meet them.†Â
Even Laura Bush on CNN stated that Obama should deliver his speech to all schoolchildren, saying it’s “really important for everyone to respect the president of the United States…I think there is the place for the president…to talk to schoolchildren and the encourage [them].†Â
Previous presidents have addressed schoolchildren, and President Obama had thought his personal narrative would be inspirational—relating his story of a disadvantaged background, of being pushed by his mother to wake up at the crack of dawn, of his wife Michelle’s rise from underprivileged roots to attending an Ivy League University. President Obama is really leading by example, a great role model for schoolchildren.
It really is a shame that the political back-and-forth has infringed on anyone speaking to schoolchildren, teachers and parents about the responsibilities that they have entering a new school year.
Peace, Love & Obama

THE INDOCTRINATION HAS SPREAD TO GATHER WORLD HEADQUARTERS!!!
(Yay, Gather!)
I am not sure that's accurate. CNN reports:
Duncan, however, noted Obama's speech is not unprecedented. President George H.W. Bush delivered a nationally televised speech to students from a Washington school in fall 1991, encouraging them to say no to drugs and work hard.
In November 1988, President Reagan delivered more politically charged remarks that were made available to students nationwide. Among other things, Reagan called taxes "such a penalty on people that there's no incentive for them to prosper ... because they have to give so much to the government."
You can Google President Bush's 1991 speech to all schoolchildren as well as President Reagan's 1988 speech. All were broadcast over the news and radio and their Secretaries of Education urged all schools to air them.
Fast-forward twenty-one years later, and the very same people who lapped up Reagan's right-wing speech are throwing a fit because today Barack Obama gave a totally different kind of classroom speech, one focused not on politics, but rather on the importance of staying in school.
Link to Reagan's speech-
Why are you appalled? Do you know as a teacher there is not enough time in the year to teach what kids needs to know. Now, the president wants to take time to tell our kids they need to stay in school, and have goals. Do you not tell your kids that? Does someone else need to them that? I am appalled. My kids school opted out.
I do not think that all parents share those thoughts with their children. I went to an inner city public school; I saw first-hand what the lack of family support did to kids. I was lucky enough to have a supportive family, but that is not universal, and to assume so perpetuates the problem. To have a man like President Obama inspire our children and give them a sense of hope and something to reach for, I am appalled that we, American citizens, would question and refuse to grant him one hour of our time.
they truly are very transparent in their motivations....at least some of us can see through it.....
"You heard it here first folks, (drum fingers on desk top) the President's speech was a smoke screen to distract us from what really happened in [_ _ _] yesterday, Snerdley roll that tape....."
