Since 1924, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has kicked off the holiday season in New York City. More than 2.5 million people line the streets every year to see giant balloons, floats, marching bands, and waving celebrities (while 44 million more tune in to the NBC TV broadcast).
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade features more than 10,000 participants, along with fabulous floats and Macy's signature giant helium character balloons.
As I watched this years parade featuring marching bands, helium balloons, wonderful floats and finally Santa Clause wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas, I started thinking about the terrorists whom so wanted to put an end to this American tradition. A tradition that brings people from all races, creeds, religions and elasticities together.
As the terrorists sit in their caves and lawless regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan railing against everything American, I wondered how they felt seeing the diverse group of Americans participating in this annual event and the diverse group of international viewers watching it and reporting on it.
Wouldn't they, themselves, enjoy such a "Thanks of Giving?."
Wouldn't they, themselves, like to wake up to the joy and festivities of the American "Holiday Season?"
Wouldn't they, themselves want to join in the feast of Turkey, Sweet Potato Pie, Corn on the Cob, etc?
No they dream of killing those whom oppose their ideology. They plan and plot further attacks on our fledgling Democracy. They use our technology, using cell phones and the internet to plan and plot their next despicable adventure.
But inside they must marvel about our tenacity. They must marvel that we, the American people have rebounded from 9/11. They must be saying to themselves, "Damn, those Americans just don't give up and go away."
So to all you Americans whom see the glass half full and to all the terrorist whom think Americans see the glass as half empty, I have something to say to you.
We will not surrender to your cowardliness. We will never force American women to wear a Burka or only walk with their husband or family member. We will never be a one Religion Nation. We will always benefit from our diversity. We will always be a model of Democracy.
Do not make the fatal mistake of taking our Political disagreements as a sign of weakness. Just as your failed attempt of dividing us after 9/11 failed, we will come together when it comes to the best interests of the the people of the United States, regardless of our race, creed, ethnicity or political persuasion.
Happy Thanksgiving America.

America will never revert to a primitive, pre-industrial society. We will only wear sandals if we so choose.
Are we MAKING PROGRESS? Yes!
Do we have more to do? Yes!
Will the terrorists ever achieve their goals of converting American to their way of thinking? No!
Our fledgling Democracy should be emulated, not frowned upon. Many Nations have adopted our Constitution as their own. A Constitution that protects it's citizens as opposed to abusing them.
Yes we can continue to build the idea of individual liberty/responsibility.
You are correct. The United States is the oldest democratic nation on earth, but in terms of years, we are still fairly new at it.
Today is a day where we should all be on the same page. We can go back to our debates starting tomorrow.
Thanks for being my friend here at Gather.

They will never win!
You are so right. They will never, ever win. Planting roadside bombs, blowing up produce markets and killing people on their way to religious retreats is an act of cowardliness, not one of heroism.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Happy Thanksgiving !!!
Is it any wonder that many, if not most Americans tell pollsters that they are fearful about their own and the country's future?
HOWEVER WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR, BUT FEAR ITSELF.
Happy Thanksgiving.

But when you are talking to terrorists, you are speaking to a group of numbskulls who have no value for human life...not even their own.
Let 'em all blow themselves to high heaven if they want, but they will never win here! Long live the U.S.A. !!!!!!!!!!!
I admit they are murderous and represent the worst of mankind. They are the new masters of the "Killing Fields".
And that is nothing to be proud of at all.
I sincerely hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

Featured in the Triple Name Club.
I really enjoyed the Parade also. I really like seeing the pride beaming from the eyes the members of the marching groups. You can tell they really wanted to participate.
I sure it's an experience they will never forget.
Thanks for FEATURING this post in the Triple Name Club. I sincerely urge others to join Kathryn's wonderful group.
9 - 11 did not divide us, it reunited the USA.
Please keep posting to our group and ask others to join.

Happy Day of Thanks to you Lloyd.
Yes, the idea of "America" lives and grows and improves, not always as fast as we want it to, but it continues.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours..
Sometimes I think that the terrorists want us to live a similar miserable life. Just imagine how miserable it would be like to wake up every morning wishing for death and destruction?
Anyway, I'd like to thank you for accepting my friend's invitation. I look forward to reading your posts and comments.
I think through good times and bad, ALL Americans have a lot to be thankful for. Happy thanksgiving...
They will go down in history only as a group of people whom only bought death and destruction to our civilization without an ounce of positive results for their actions.
"I think through good times and bad, ALL Americans have a lot to be thankful for. Happy thanksgiving..."
I agree with you. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I gave up the tradition of watching Thanksgiving parades, New Years parades etc, I've got kids who just couldn't handle it, or have the attention span to watch something like that....
I'm glad Thanksgiving was over, I woke up with a migraine and oculdn't even stare at the computer long.....dinner was simple, and believe me when I say simple....drove around looked at long lines....and crashed fairly early....went shopping on Friday and Saturday, came home with a maxed out credit card but a new and improved laptop that I
can run PhotoShop CS3 on......
Got a good portion of my Christmas shopping doen
and made the decision that we are not going to do stockings this year....
My cat will get a stocking.........its tradition and she KNOWS which is hers....she always has the habit of pulling out one of her toys before Christmas.......
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
I truly hope that America can and WILL unite before its too late.....

Where have you been? I've surely missed you.
I'm one that normally don't pay attention to Thanksgiving parades either. If it's on, I'll take a peek.
However this year, I noticed the enthusiasm and the passion of the participants and was moved to write this article.
I saw the joy and happiness of the people in the crowd and came to the conclusion that the agenda of the terrorists was a failure.
Nothing could be more clear that their attempts at changing us, frightening us and imposing their beliefs upon us has been an utter failure.
Americans paraded down the streets of the same American city that was attacked on 9/11. That said a lot about Americans and their tenacity.
I'm glad you finally got a new laptop. You will enjoy the new technology. Hopefully it will make us all see more of you here at Gather.
Hoping you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and hoping you will have a Merry Christmas.
