The Times Square shooting occurs at a time when many of us start to think of spending New Year's Eve at Times Square. The Times Square shooting happened today during a crackdown on the sale of counterfeit goods by street vendors.
The Times Square shooting involved a police officer and a fleeing suspect. USA Today reports the police officer was investigating the sale of counterfeit CDs and the suspect fled. It is reported two shots were fired and one hit the suspect while the other broke a window. It seems the Times Square shooting was fatal.
As we solemnly consider the Times Square shooting today, we also remember Times Square New Year's Eve celebrations. Here is footage from Times Square New Year's Eve 2009, compliments of YouTube:

If someone was out to kill many people, is the person going to go where no one is at, or.....

Sure it's wrong to sell counterfeit goods, but being killed over it? Sometimes these types of reports make me think along the line - Long Live Capitalism, because it is on the behalf of the big corporations who stand to lose millions that a human was killed.
Seems to me, they should spent their money going after the countries like China and wherever where these CDs are stolen before they are ever pressed.
The police approached the man and asked for a tax stamp (which is required by street vendors). One of the vendors ran away and police went after him. The vendor then pulled out a weapon with 27 rounds, that's 27 rounds! That could have hurt a lot of people. The vendor shot 3 times before being shot down himself.
He was shot because he had a weapon and was firing it in a packed tourist zone.
He was shot to minimize the loss of innocent lives.
Get real if you thought NYPD would shot someone over selling street items.
