Tell Them to Put TARP Money Back to Pay Our...

Banks and businesses are paying back TARP money and the idiots in Washington can't figure out what to dowith it. Of course they should try reducing what we owe!

Last week, I shared that my husband and I were able to attend the Real Jobs Summit held by American Solutions for Winning the Future.

Today I got this message from American Solutions. Call your representative and let him/her know that you support using unspent or paid back TARP funds to reduce then national debt.

Pick up the phone now. They might still be voting today. (Unless you've heard that they already did?)

From American Solutions:

We just learned that the House Republicans are going to force a vote on Friday to end the TARP program, and use all the unspent TARP funds to reduce our national debt.

Please pick up the phone, and urge your representative to support this measure.

To be exact, tell your representative to vote for the motion to recommit on H.R. 4173.

Let me get this straight.........you attend something called a JOBS Summit.........then campaign against spending REPAID TARP money to invest in JOBS? Guess sprinkling a teeny weeney tiny bit of salt on the deficits tail is MUCH more important than investing in programs to PUT people back to work (JOBS?)
OH............ I see now..........it's just some more of the 'Heads you win.....Tails I lose' tactics that are so VITAL to use against the present administration. Better to prove a mindless GOP talking point than to co-operate in saving American families from continued hardships. Since you didn't learn anything helpful at the SUMMIT.....I do hope you did at LEAST have a FREE cookie........quite DRY when served w/o the Milk of HUMAN Kindness but you DO understand 'sacrifice'!! (sigh)

It's an integrity thing, APE. They said as the money came in, they would put it back. So it's time to do what they said.

There are plenty of ways to promote job growth. American Solutions has plenty - and they don't involve TARP money. They do, however, require the government to downsize and for them to lower taxes, two things this government does not want to do.

All 'they' require is for people like YOU to do the actual work of putting people like THEM back in DC to once AGAIN ignore implementing the things THEY never touched when THEY had the power to do them. Pardon me while I get back to enjoying all the things that their 8 years of 'smaller Government and fewer taxes' have provided me. Does an Elitist Chardonnay go with a generic Mac n Cheese? LOL

Sad to say, because of poor politics and total lack of restraint, America is becoming a third-world nation while Wall Street, multinationals and central bankers loot the land for wealth and gold while it is to be had.

That's pretty accurate EJ, and the government is doing nothing about it, because they have made themselves dependent on those rascals, instead of the voters and taxpayers they should be representing.

The money does not exist it is all borrowed or printed, none of it is available for anything except paying off the debt which we will likely end up defaulting on. Politicians just can't keep their hands off votes money.

There are still buyers out there for dollars but the supply of fools is going to run out and we'll be in real trouble then.

Unhappily, the nation is already bankrupt. We are kidding ourselves if we think otherwise. Investing in the nation when the people need help is where money should be spent, not on banks. I am all for fiscal prudence and debt payment, but this nation has gone too far into the hole. Half the people are working, the rest are draining the system (21% disabled, 13% retired, 4% prison, -% government workers, -% unemployed) while the politicians party with what is left of the dollar, YOUR dollar if you are an American citizen. Half the people in America can't pay the bills while politicians and multinationals send jobs overseas to prosper themselves and continue to gut the nation.

@ Marilyn - How would lowering taxes help the deficit as this would decrease federal revenue and lead to increases in the deficit? Cuts would have to be made in programs, where should they be made? Militay spending? Medicare? Social Security? Food stamps? With the ecomony in the state that it is, I'd think it would be prudent to get people back to work first. We can keep spending to a minimum, but I'd like to see more ideas put forth than merely tax cuts. I think a more fair distribution of the tax burden should be put in place as the middle-class can no longer bear the weight.

I agree that government has grown to be too large and could use trimming, but why pay the money towards the deficit when we would more than likely need to borrow more Monopoly money to get people back to work? Are those the only solutions proposed?

Nah Stacy, They are only the ones that are viable to the big THINKERS above and interest those that HAVE jobs and have too much time on their hands to play ECONOMIST on the computer. Those of us that are simply the chess pieces on the game board of real life wouldn't have a clue about all that stuff. We probably just foolishly believe and think that when WE have SOME money to spend because we HAVE a JOB...... Demand will move supply, workers will be hired to fill that demand for products, drain on Gov't Services lessens, money starts moving in and out of accounts, taxes are paid out and collected IN, monthly bills get paid on time, the kids have shoes and food and everything is FINE. Why would something like THAT ever work? LOL

At least another 30% could be cut from the government, Stacey, probably 40%. Did you know that across the states we have over 513,000 people as elected officials. We have too many of them and too many government employees. Government agencies are not run effectively or efficiently.

And with those cuts and cuts in taxes - especially for small businesses which are the ones creating 3 out of 4 jobs - there would be more people working....who could pay taxes.

I posted about the Real Jobs Summit that American Solutions held in Cincinnati and Jackson, MS. The ideas were good ones - both what they came with and what they got from the 600 who attended.

I agree, cutting the redundancy in government positions (and agencies) is a good place to start and I certainly don’t have a problem with tax cuts for small businesses to encourage them to hire workers, but that’s nothing innovative or hasn’t already been proposed (the small business tax cuts) by the Obama Administration.

I’ll have to take a look at your previous articles on the subject, but since this particular post was about TARP repayment money and how it should all be used to pay down the deficit, I’m assuming that’s addressed as well as ideas on how jobs can be brought back to our economy right now and in the long-term.

Ya mean it isn't just the best wingnut idea to cut THOUSANDS of the higher PAYING Government jobs. The ones with the longest safety net attached to them INCLUDING UI and Ins coverage and dump them into a non existent job market in an economy where families are NOT buying much of anything being made or provided by Small businesses that are already stagnant (paying few taxes already) and struggling to keep a few people working so they can hopefully stay OPEN until a recovery takes place. May as well bring about 60,000 of the Troops home right now too. Better idea to empty the prisons of the rich robber barons so they can bolster the economy back up with the lifestyles they had that TOOK away the lifestyles we reached for.

I rather like the idea of sending the prisoners along with the robber barons off to fight this particular war and bringing the soldiers home, Ape. I don't trust them to bring the economy back, you cut off their heads and another comes forth every time. I think it's time that those "bright young minds" of Wall Street step up to the plate and show the nation what they can do.
