It is believed that championships are won in the heels of playing great defense. The play of the offense may look good and provide excitement, but a great defense is the necessary component to win a super bowl in the NFL. Insert the (7-7) New York Jets, who enter Sunday’s game against the (14-0) Indianapolis Colts, ranked 1st in every major defensive category, but are hampered by the mistakes of their rookie quarterback, Mark Sanchez. The New York Jets need a win against the undefeated Colts to keep their ACF playoff hopes alive.
At 14-0, the Indianapolis Colts are two wins away from finishing the regular season a perfect 16-0. The discussion surrounding Sunday’s game is how long will the Colts starters play, being that Indianapolis has already clinched home field and has nothing to lose if they are defeated by the jets. If the Colts goal is to pursue a perfect season and not to rest their starters, Peyton Manning and company must be prepared for a hard-fought physical game.
The Colts have zero losses, the Jets have 7. The Colts know how to win, the Jets find ways to lose. With that being said, there is a way the Jets can bring Indianapolis their first loss of the season. New York must apply pressure early and often to Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, they must put their number one ranked defense to work, and blitz Manning from multiple formations.
For the Jets to be successful on Sunday quarterback Mark Sanchez must limit his mistakes, and throw the ball away instead of throwing an interception, he has 20 on the season. New York must also utilize their number 1 ranked rushing offense against Indianapolis’ 16th ranked rushing defense.
For the Colts to move to 15-0 with a win against the Jets, the formula is simple, do not implode, and limit mistakes, always give Peyton Manning a chance to win the game. If Indianapolis can withstand the pressure brought by the Jets defense and find a way to get the ball to their playmakers, the Colts will be successful and one step closer to a perfect season.Â
Though the New York Jets will go into Indianapolis with a record of 7 wins and 7 losses, they will leave the premises with a record of 8-7. The Jets are a team not justified by their record, New York has all the elements of an 11 win team but have been hampered by mistakes and mental breakdowns during the season.  On Sunday, New York can rectify their season with a win against the Colts.
New York has all the essentials to hand the Colts their first loss of the season, great defense, great running game, shutdown cornerback in Darrelle Revis, and they need this game to keep their season alive.
In a game that will be a physical confrontation, the Jets have enough ammunition stand pact with the Colts. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez holds the keys to the game, the fewer mistakes he makes the better chance New York has of victory.
I like the New York Jets to defeat the Indianapolis Colts in a matchup that will drop the Colts to 14-1.
