The Chicago Bears lead the Minnesota Vikings 16-0 at halftime of their Monday Night Football game at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The Bears started the scoring with a 22-yard field goal by Robbie Gould halfway through the first quarter. Gould added a 42-yarder in the opening minutes of the second quarter to double their lead to 6-0. Later in the quarter, Jay Cutler hooked up with tight end Greg Olsen on a 7-yard touchdown pass, making the score 13-0. Gould hit a 41-yarder as time in the first half expired, pushing Chicago's lead to 16-0. Cutler, who leads the NFL in interceptions, is turnover-free on the night while completing 12 of 21 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. Matt Forte leads the Bears rushing attack, running for 39 yards on 10 carries.
Meanwhile, the Vikings have been shut down by Chicago's defense. Brett Favre has only completed five passes for 36 yards in the half, while Adrian Peterson has only gained 28 rushing yards on nine carries. Minnesota has gained 89 yards of total offense while being forced into three 3-and-out's.
A Minnesota loss would give the New Orleans Saints the top seed in the NFC and allow the Philadelphia Eagles to clinch a first round bye in the playoffs with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. A Vikings win would give them the first round bye and an opportunity to clinch the NFC's top seed with a victory next week combined with a loss by the Saints.
