The Eureka earthquake, a Northern California earthquake, struck with a magnitude of 6.5. The Eureka CA earthquake was reported by the United States Geological Survey at 4:27 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2010. The earthquake occurred near Ferndale CA, 27 miles south of Eureka CA.
The Eureka earthquake was felt for hundreds of miles through Ferndale California and into San Francisco. Power outages were reported. Stores and businesses in the area closed. Gas leaks and a water main break were also reported. The Eureka earthquake will not result in a tsunami.
