After weeks of speculation, video game publisher EA Sports, maker of the popular Madden NFL and Need For Speed franchises, has announced it will follow through on plans for the 13 installment in the Tiger Woods golf simulation line of games. EA Sports has come out in support of Woods despite his recent alleged transgressions (and recent rumors the golfer is at a Mississippi rehab facility for sex addiction). The new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will be released in June on XBox, Wii, Playstation 3, and iPhone platforms.
EA Sports president Peter Moore explained the company's position on his blog:
Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf. We didn’t form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm’s length endorser. Far from it. We chose to partner with Tiger in 1997 because we saw him as the world’s best, most talented and exciting golfer. We struck that partnership with the assumption that he would remain near or at the top of his sport for years to come.
Personally, I love the Tiger Woods games. Easily the best golf games out there (even though the Wii game constantly loses connection with the controller during my backswing, causing my video game swing to look an awful lot like my real-life swing. Such a pain in the butt!)
