Experts say that the New Madrid fault is active which could result in an earthquake. Recent tremors in West Tennessee could mean an earthquake in the future on the New Madrid fault line. Earthquakes that occur on the New Madrid fault can affect areas such as Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi. The fault has produced four of the largest North American earthquakes in history. The four earthquakes that occurred in this region happened between 1811 and 1812. The magnitude of the quakes was in excess of 8.0.The recent tremors in the area seem to mean that this fault is active and should be watched carefully.
