In the 2010 Vancouver Olympics the United States has continued to do well in Alpine skiing events. Today was no different, although Lindsey Vonn may have preferred gold in the Womens Super G event Saturday. Vonn picked up her second medal of the 2010 Winter Olympics, grabbing the bronze. Her teammate Julia Mancuso had a bit of an incident on one turn, and almost went off course. She finished ninth in the event. Meanwhile, Austria's Andrea Fischbacher was described as "super-fast" today. She took the gold medal as she completed the run in 1 minute, 20.14 seconds.
Vonn admitted that she could have been more aggressive today in her skiing performance, saying she backed off the gas pedal when she passed the difficult parts of the course. Vonn has her other medal in the women's downhill skiing event, despite the bruised right shin injury that she had heading into the games. She will have two more events left at these Olympics with the giant slalom and slalom. Vonn's other event, the super-combined saw her wipe out during the slalom leg of the course.
The winner today of the Womens Super G, Andrea Fischbacher, previously finished in second place on January 31 in the super-G event before the Olympics in Switzerland. Beating her there was Team USA's Vonn. Fischbacher also had a fourth place finish in the downhill event, finishing just fractions of a second behind the bronze medalist, Elisabeth Gorgl.
