If you've seen the movie Precious, it probably came as no surprise to you that Mo'Nique won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She began speech saying, "First I would like to thank the Academy for showing it can be about the performance and not the politics." Hollywood might not always be about talent, but at least they got it right this time.
Mo'Nique gets a lot credit for stepping outside of her comfort zone into a serious role. She deserves even more kudos for taking on such a challenging role. Sure her performance was an obvious candidate for an award show nomination, but I'm sure many serious actresses wouldn't have dared take on such a dark character, especially when incest is involved.
