The Food & Drug Administration recommended Procter & Gamble to issue a recall of some of its Pringles potato crisps. The products recalled contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) manufactured by Basic Food Flavors, Inc.  who issued a recall last week because Salmonella was found in it s equipment and was transferred to it’s product. Pringles is just one of what may become thousands of products.

According to the FDA the problem germ is Salmonella Tennessee. "We don't know precisely how large this recall will get," said Dr. Jeff Farrar, associate commissioner for food safety, FDA's Office of Foods. "We expect this to get larger over the next several days to several weeks. Many of the products with the flavor enhancer contain a "kill step" designed to destroy salmonella. Those products will not be recalledâ€.
Apparently, the FDA received a tip and investigated the manufacturer’s equipment where they found the Tennessee strain of salmonella. The FDA is not saying who called it in.Â
