The former Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has died at the age of 85 years old in Kathmandu. He died after suffering from respiratory problems for nearly two weeks. He had lapsed into a coma early saturday morning, and had passed away by noon local time. His death was announced to the crowd that had gathered by former PM, her Bahadur Deuba.
Kiorala was considered to be the architect of the peace negotiations that ended a decade of Maoist insurgency, had served 4 terms as Prime Minister with the Nepali Congress Party, and led protests that brought down King Gyanendra's authoritarian rule. He was involved in politics for over 60 years. Country and world leaders are offering their condolences. A state funeral is being planned
