What not to post on Facebook is a status update that got a student expelled from school. One boy wrote that he would kill his English teacher. Kathy Bowen is his English teacher and she was not amused.
The student wrote on his Facebook status that he would kill Kathy Bown, his English teacher because he did not like her.
The Brevard County school district decided ot expel the boy and send him to an alternative school.
Police are considering charges as the teacher feels afraid of the boy. Students who know the boy say that he is a prankster and vote him just joking. He's funny, but Kathy Bowen doesn't find him funny at all.
What do you think? Is the school and teacher over-reacting, or does this show a violent personality type and presents a danger to the teacher?

Secondly, who's to say he was joking anyways. I could say anything, and retract it saying I'm just joking. Such as: I think you aren't very smart. Just Joking!! Now, do you think I was actually kidding about that? How do you know I'm not lying about joking. I'd say I was joking too if it was going to possibly get me out of trouble, no matter how serious I had been previously.
Finally, the fact that he added his principal makes her/him his "friend" also, therefore making it her/his business. If you have Facebook, you'd know, when someone posts a status update it shows up on most of their friends home pages. Chances are, the principal wasn't "snooping" but it popped up on their home page, making it their business and for him/her to see.
Cyber bullying (and yes, making threats regarding a teacher is still considered bullying) is very serious. Things like this shouldn't be taken lightly, and the boy is lucky he only got expelled.
I'm not advocating what this kid did, but as a soon to be educator myself, I feel that being added to a student's social networking site strongly crosses the line of being too familiar. Of course, nobody asks that question...
And I'm sorry if you're pissing me off and I tell you that Im GOING to kick your ass if you don't stop that's not a threat. That's a warning.
But how many people haven't said at some point in their lives something like "Oh man my mom/dad/grandparent/teacher/etc is gonna kill me for this"
Doesn't mean they're going to do it! And rather than getting to the ROOT of the issue they have PERMANENTLY scared this child's educational career potential. No college will touch him.
