If you are a woman with blonde hair, there's a good chance you are making a whopping seven percent more money than women who don't have blonde hair.
According to Telegraph.co.uk, a new study in the journal, Economic Letters, finds that blonde women not only enjoy higher salaries than other women, but that they also tend to marry wealthier men.
The study was conducted at the University of Queensland by Dr. David Johnston. Johnston finds that difference in pay is not contingent upon other factors like weight, height or education level. The only connection seems to be their golden locks.
13,000 women were surveyed for the study and although Johnston cannot scientifically explain why blondes had more financial success, he posits that even though blonde women are often thought of as being less intelligent than other women, they are also often "depicted as being more attractive." Johnston says, "...the association between blondes and beauty dominates any perception that they have low intelligence."
Now we know why so many women dye their hair blonde, and why so many blondes dye their hair even blonder than it already is.
Harumph! Well, I hope the next hair-color study we learn about proves something like blondes might have wealthier husbands but brunettes' husbands are more likely to help out around the house!
