Since the announcement of the iPhone 4.0 OS, details mentioned here and here, I have been trying to find out what the release date for the iPhone 4G will be. I have seen numerous guesses, but nothing concrete. Apple's own web site just says that the OS will ship this summer for both the iPhone and the iPad, but a developer beta is available now.
Thats great, but when will I be able to get a phone that runs the new OS? Unfortunately, the OS will not be backwards compatible with older iPhone models. So this means that we will have to wait until the new phone is available too.
I have seen one guess that seems to be worth something though. That is Tuesday, June 22. The reason for this guess is that Apple has reserved a conference center for that date, which is where they have announced new iPhones for the past 3 years.
There are some interesting developments on that front though. It appears that the new iPhone will be available in a CDMA model for Verizon as well as the GSM model for AT&T. Again, nothing concrete appears about this, but there are enough rumors out there that this seems likely.
Also, the iPhone 4G as it is often referred will actually be branded as the iPhone HD.
