Richard Branson, founder of the numerous Virgin companies, was featured on a recent Oprah Winfrey Show along with his home, Necker Island. The world exclusive interview with Branson was filmed on Necker Island, and will feature exclusive "never-before-seen-footage". Nate Berkus was granted the exclusive tour. Reportedly, the impressive business entity Branson is worth upwards of $1.2 billion, but he bought Necker island for a lot cheaper than you'd imagine! See the Oprah video footage here.
Necker Island is a small 74-acre island located in the British Virgin Islands which Branson bought for the amazingly low price of just 180,000 pounds back in the late 70's. He was required by the Government to build a resort there within five years or the island would be returned to state control. The island has since been developed into quite the rental property, with accommodations for up to 28 guests, and a daily price tag of $47,000.
Also on the Oprah Winfrey show, viewers got a look at Necker Nymph and Necker Belle. Necker Nymph is Branson's underwater aircraft, the world's first three man aero-submarine. Necker Belle is Branson's 32 metre long catamaran. Both items are part of his impressive Virgin Limited Edition.
Beyond Necker Island, Nymph and Belle the Virgin Limited Edition also includes Ulusaba Private Game Reserve in South Africa; Sa Terra Rotja in Mallorca; The Roof Gardens and Babylon Restaurant in London; Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco and The Lodge in Verbier in its collection.
I read Branson's "Losing My Virginity" biography and recommend it for entertainment and business value. After seeing the show I can say that Branson's island is simply stunning and impressive. His underwater aircraft style submarine is one cool toy! The sub can hold several people and is silent underwater with no real motor vibrations. That allows the voyagers to check out the underwater aquatic life without scaring fish away. All of Branson's property, buildings, businesses and toys go to show what happens when you dream big and take massive action in achieving the dream(s) you have.
The Richard Branson interview from Necker Island aired on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday April 14,2010. You can now see exclusive video footage from the show here at Oprah's website.
