You just have to love Jon Stewart. Last night on ‘The Daily Show’ with Jon Stewart, Stewart ranted about South Park and defended South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘South Park’ are both on the Comedy Central station.
Last night Stewart began his show with a 10-minute rant against the Muslim group that issued a threat against the South Park creators. This Jon Stewart South Park rant has several bleeps in it and is certainly PG-13 rated.
A New York City group called Revolution Muslim posted a threat on its website. The website featured a post warning Stone and Parker to that they could end up like Theo van Gogh who was murdered by a radical Muslim. The site also posted a photo of Theo van Gogh’s body along with the addresses of Stone and Parker and a video of somebody saying to kill them over the South Park episodes.
Even though Matt Stone and Trey Parker sent the show to Comedy Central in tact, Comedy Central decided to censor the episode and they bleeped out Muhammad’s name as well as blurred out his image. Comedy Central actually censored the show without the consent of Stone and Parker.
The South Park creators released the following statement:
"In the 14 years we've been doing ‘South Park,’ we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it."
