UVA lacrosse player Yeardley Love, 22, was found dead today in an off-campus apartment by her roommate at 2:15 AM. George Huguely, 22, a male University of Virgina lacrosse player, was jailed today on murder charges just hours after the body of Yeardley Love was found.
According to ABC News, there were visible signs of physical trauma to the body of Yeardley Love. As of this time, the official cause of death is not released. George Huguely was charged with first-degree murder.
The roommate of UVA lacrosse player Yeardley Love thought she had overdosed on alcohol. When the police arrived at the off-campus apartment, “it was quickly apparent to them that this young lady was the victim of something far worse.â€
Both Virginia lacrosse players Yeardley Love and George Huguely were fourth year students at the University of Virginia. Statements given to the police indicate the two were in a past relationship. George Huguely reportedly weighed over 200 pounds.
I cannot begin to express my sadness about the untimely death of Yeardley Love. My condolences go out to the family and friends of this talented, beautiful young athlete.
I am devastated about the deaths of young school-age women such as Yeardley Love, Phoebe Prince and Denise Cotteta. It makes us all wonder whether our children are safe at school at any age. Why must it be so dangerous to attain a higher education in today's world?
