It's a cop-out. Individuals are 100% responsible for their own actions, regardless of the psychobabble attempts to explain things. However, there is a definite link between psychotropic drugs (especially SSRIs) and homicides / suicides. DrugAwareness.org does a great job of documenting this, which the media seems to consistently ignore. (No wonder -- drug ads feed them so well). Thanks for posting this -- now take out the trash (to prison)!

"HIGHWAY TO HELL" comes to mind. I just hope that he devulges what he did with Natalee. Yes Visionaerie B., that's what happens when drug laws are so soft. Take enough and you're garanteed to screw something up somewhere. Let's hope that he gets a lot of late night visits from his friends down the hall. Mentally ill ? My ass.

Is being a serial killer some kind of mental illness? Cause he definitely seems crazy. Who kills 3 people before their 25?
Psych meds do not cause homicidal/suicidal thoughts. They exacerbate those feelings which already exist, usually in very young patients.
As his mom said, if he had gotten real help, he probably would not have done this. Meds/therapy is a great combo, and maybe if he would have entered that psych ward he would have been fine. The psych field didn't fail here, he failed himself. Seems to me he is sick to some extent, and has an extreme condition. He needed much more help than he was getting. Not for us to say whether he's sick or not tho, we haven't evaluated him, and might not be trained to do so. In the end, there really is no excuse to kill over and over again, unless you meant to do it. It was not like he had no control.

It's good enough for him if he gets killed while he is locked up!! Then no one has to worry about their daughter being the next victim!

When a person has murdered another person(s), then they should be dealt with accordingly. To me, appropriate sentencing would be to leave it up to the victims loved one's. The family of the young man who supposedly murdered two young women and the family of the murdered young women are the only people on earth who have a right and a basis for being personally offended and therefore, judgmental about this young man. I cannot conceive how it does any good, on any level, for me to be judgmental towards this young man, his mother who defends him like a mother should, or the mental health system, no matter how I may feel about any of it outside of this situation. If he's found guilty of murder, he will pay for murder. It's really quite simple - no need for histerics. How anyone can so openly and bluntly announce their anger, bitterness and passed judgment on this young man without even having known the family of the victims or this young man is beyond me. I'm not saying that what he supposedly did was right, agreeable or justified, but since I wasn't there and I have never met nor do I know anyone involved personally, then I cannot pass judgment upon him. Rather, grieve for the family, both his and the victims and leave the passing of judgment to the system that we each helped to create.

Right Merging light. I agree to some extent. But we are all connected. Every single one of us. We do have the right to feel anger and sorrow for these victims, his parents, family and friends, Natalee's friends and family, Stephany's friends and family. He's touched a lot of lives. Mine, I was born in Amsterdam. Went to school there and frankly I'm rather embarrassed to say so. I have also have 2 girls. I can imagine what the parents are going through. Therefore, I can actually hate the little bastard for inflicting this grief on these people. I personally don't know anyone involved. But I and everyone else do and should have the right to pass judgement, just as I do when Bin Laden and other insergents causei death and mayhem at home and abroad.
So, are you saying is that when another Hitler type asshole should rear it's ugly head and start doing bad shit at a distance, we shouldn't interfere or because it's not being done to us.
