Anna Chapman is one of the accused in the Russian spy ring FBI bust. Chapman’s father is Russian diplomat Vasily Kushchenko. Kushchenko’s lawyer says that Chapman reached out to her father who advised her to go to the police.
Chapman, 28, was arrested after she was approached by an undercover FBI agent who gave her a fake passport to give to another spy. Taking the fake passport to the police led to Anna Chapman’s arrest and solitary confinement.
She was the first of the 10 suspected people in the Russian spy ring who was arrested over the weekend. Chapman has been denied bail. The charges she faces are conspiring to act as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. She could spend up to 5 years in jail if convicted.
Chapman’s ex-husband, Alex Chapman, has come out and said that he is not surprised that she was a spy. Her lawyer said that the divorce was bitter and that the ex-husband’s reports are false. The couple was married in 2002 after knowing each other for 5 months. They remained married for 4 years, and Chapman kept his name.
Obviously in this case it is really hard to tell what the truth is. I feel certain that there is some truth behind the case or else these accused spies would not have been arrested and held without bond. What do you think? Do you believe that Anna Chapman is innocent?
