Beach smoking ban? Hopefully - NYC Mayor Bloomberg considering to ban on smoking in outdoor areas

I THINK THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!

I cannot enjoy being at the beach or park because of smoking. If people were considerate that would be one thing...The smoke makes me sick. I am not a willing participant, it infringes on my right to enjoy clean air.

And the next time you travel down the highway, please remember that you are breathing in all the exhaust of all those vehicles on the road in the mile or so in front of you. Same thing as standing next to a smoker.

You don't mind the exhaust because of all the things they've put onto a vehicle-- so you don't notice.

But the pollution is still there darling, and you are sucking it in. I hope you lose sleep over this when you realize just how stupid your anti-smoking mentality is when you consider how much vehicular exhaust you suck in every day.

I am sorry, but I am sick and Darn tired of telling us smokers where,what, and when we can smoke.
I am 59 years old, have smoked all of my adult life. I Have NEVER been rude about smoking. Always ask if my smoking bothers someone. And all of the good stuff. What TOTALLY annoys me is 14% of the people are making decisions about what others are allowed to do and not allowed to do.
I pay my taxes, and GOD knows I pay my EXTRA cigarette tax. Enough is enough. I will go with not smoking in a public office, smoking in bars, should be at the decision of the bar or lounge owner. Hang a BIG sign, THIS IS A SMOKING BAR! If you don't want to go in, then find a Non-smoking bar.

I think the point of it is to discourage smoking which is not good for your health.

Esmeralda, you non-smokers get BILLIONS of dollars in taxes annually from the smokers.

if that smoker sits beside you after you have arrived then ask them to move or not smoke

I have never been to a public beach where I have been able to get away from the smoke. I have politely asked people to stop, and several people have cussed me out. I have tried dealing with your habit, but that does not stop me from getting sick. If your bad habit infringes on the health of those around you then the government has a right to intervene. And what beach is there that allows smoking and there are not thousands of cig butts in the sand...how considerate is that! Why do you need to smoke at the beach and park anyway? If I decide it is my right to walk around and spray people with perfume what is the difference? I do not want to smell like smoke. It stays on your clothes so I have to immediately wash them before I can sit on my couch. AND I have to take a shower so I don't transfer the smell to my other clothes!

Yes, but nobody is having health problems due to second hand hamburgers or hotdogs. I often have to deal with smoke even when I'm outside.

Absolutely we need to ban smoking in cars! Almost daily I see a car full of kids trapped in with some adult in the front smoking. The kids can't escape. So, yes, because some people are too dumb to not smoke in cars with kids on their own, then we do need to ban it IMO.

Because, if you want your cake then you'll eat it too. Why? Well, there should also be a LAW against fat people too. Being 10, 25, 50, or 100 pounds overweight ALL causes health problems too, just as much as smoking.

Since you justify sanctioning smokers because they are impacting the quality of "YOUR" air (since when is the air yours anyway?), a law against FAT people (yes, this is probably you if you aren't down to 7-8% bodyfat which most people over 20 simply don't have) MUST be put into place where ANY anti-smoking law is in effect.

Why? Well like tainting the air YOU breathe, FAT people affect me just as much. If you disagree, try to sit next to one on a plane or bus, or go down an isle when they are in it... they invade personal space just like smokers invade your air. NO DIFFERENT.

What most people who do not smoke we can smell the smoke before we even see you. I do not like the government telling people what they should and should not do. To throw the case in someone's face that you know someone who smoked like a chimney and lived forever does not dispute science. And I do go to non-smoking restaurants and bars...but there are places I want to go that are not non-smoking. I do not douse myself in perfume either FYI. I just hate that I have to make sure I have my inhaler everytime I leave the house or go chance having a deadly attack everytime I leave the house. The way you feel about nauseating perfume is how I feel about smoke. You cannot considerately smoke or wear too much perfume.

That first part should say what most smokers don't realize is we can smell it way before we even see you.

A) Breathing the smoke directly from the end of a cigarette

The laws on smoking have gone to far. Next thing it will be outlawed. What is the goverment going to go after next? People who do not like other people who smoke have no problem with natural burning fireplaces or being by a campfire where there is lots of smoke. That dosen't seem to bother them.

I am a smoker. I like to smoke. I know all the risks involved and all the reasons I shouldnt smoke. ( I wonder if thats how a crack head feels about his crack)
I am an addict my drug of choice is Camel Light wides!!!! Now here in Michigan I cant go to an establishment that serves food and smoke. Thats ok I can handle that not a big deal, however I dont go to the bar as much anymore. But if I am outside it shouldnt bother anyone unless Im sitting right next to them or blowing my smoke in thier face. Lets get real if our leaders dont want us to smoke anywhere then why dont they close down the cigarette companies? Actually please dont do that because I like to smoke. But it this smoking ban is getting out of hand! I thought this was a free country! The ban takes my rights away

As a smoker I carry a small ash tray in my purse so I do not throw the butts on the ground. If I don't have it with me then I just put it out and the butt goes in my pocket.
Note to all smokers please don't litter. Also If I see butts on the ground I will pick them up. As long as there are not 1,000's. I just try to clean up a little where i can.

This is a very smart way to take care of the leftovers from smoking. Too many people don't. Of course, that can be said about a lot of things.

as for non-smokers if you see me smoking stay away from me don't come over and ask me to put my cig out. Which has happen I was in the smoking section and a non-smoker ask me to put my cig out. I just said if you don't like it then go to the non-smoking section. I have my rights too.
