Taliban Executes a Pregnant Widow

The Taliban executed a pregnant widow. She was a widow but accused of becoming pregnant after her husband's death. Sanam Gul was accused of adultery in western Afghanistan, and shot in the head for her alleged crime on Saturday.

Sanam Gul, also known as Sanam Bibi, was 47-years-old. She was killed in Badghis province Saturday morning, said Ashrafuddin Majidi, the provincial governor's spokesman, according to CNN.

Qades, Hashim Habibi, confirmed the execution. The woman stood accused of adultery, but not confirmed.  Habbi said, "The woman was accused of adultery that left her pregnant. The Taliban shadow district governor, Mullah Abdul Hakim, and his judge ordered the woman to be executed."

Mohammad Yousuf, a Taliban commander, shot the woman in the head. Where is the outrage? This is so like the Salem Witch Trials. Is all that needs to be is an accusation? What proof is there? Are they even sure she was pregnant? The question is of import because to accuse her of adultery, and getting pregnant, the pregnancy has to be proven. Also, the woman could have been raped. What chance does a woman stand under Taliban rule?

This is disgusting.

None. They think that women are good for nothing more than being open vaginas to procreate. They have all but earned their spot in hell.
hello kerrel. killing a pregnant woman is the biggest crime. i'm sure the Furies and nemesis will punish the person who commited this heinous crime. Unless we come back to nonviolence, such crimes will continue, shaaaking our belief in humanity.

Kerrell I think you are a pig and you should be raped whipped and then shot like that woman was and you then tell me what you think. You are one of the reasons that our world is screwed up and we are sinking in one big black hole.

What I was trying to say was that these people treat women like chattle, Kimberly. To them, women are nothing more than indentured servants that can be changed as quickly as one changes clothing. For those of us that have forgotten about the Taliban, these zealots have all but forced women into hiding, killing them for even the smallest of indescretions.

Thomas, I don't think that's what she's saying at all. Her reference was to your response to Heather being glad to live here. Heather, Nancy, and I appreciate not living in fear of becoming widowed, raped, and then murdered violently for having been widowed and raped. Or whatever the true scenario was for that poor woman. I think what Nancy said to you was well intentioned advice from someone who's been on this earth awhile. I hope you will consider taking it that way instead of defensively.

Thank you, Susan. I agree, however there is an awful lot of senseless killings that take place on a daily basis here in this country, not government sanctioned of course, but we must be aware of some of these imperfections in our own society.

Even if this woman was guilty of adultery, the punishment does not fit the crime. As Mr. York points out, there is a very real possibility that she was raped by the same criminals who executed her.

was more of a SPORT. Shameful all the way around, anyway you look at it.

Why is everyone so shocked by these animals? They have been doing this for centuries for less than adultery. They have no self control, have raped women then executed them for being promiscuous. They have executed and imprisoned women for life for being in public without a male member of their family. They are nothing but animals and the sooner we realize it the better. The only thing you can do for an animal out of control is to put it down.

Yes Thomas, we did burn witches, fact is we don't do that anymore and haven't for a vey long time. The Taliban still engage in the atrocities I mentioned and more. I never said we were perfect because we are not. I happen to agree with you on that part. At least we try to better ourselves when we realize something needs to be changed. They are the ones that believe they are perfect, do nothing wrong and never attempt to change. Our being imperfect does not negate the fact that they are animals.

Adele: I certainly do not condone any of their atrocious acts. However they believe they are right just as strongly as we believe we are right. The difference between their behavior today and our behavior years ago is just a matter of historical timing. In the realm of almighty God there is no 'time' as we define it.
