Scientists discovered the corpse of an iceman they named Ötzi. He is alleged to be a 5300-year-old mummy frozen in time. His body was moved in a ceremony to the mountain top where he was found in 1991. Items found near the body show a burial ceremony took place, and that the mummy was respected.
The death of the mummy has been the subject of much speculation, but now, studies show that the corpse died in early spring, and moved to his ceremonial burial plot.
Discovery.com says,  "Among the 466 items found at the site were a dagger, a backpack frame, an ax, a quiver, a birch-bark container, a grass mat, a bow and a pelt cap."
The items that were buried with the corpse actually moved in the ice. It is so fascinating to see what science can now do to recreate the iceman. The picture shows what the iceman would have looked like when he was alive. The records indicate that his twisted body was actually not of someone tortured, but that his body moved about in the ice that froze his well-preserved corpse.
The iceman cometh for sure, now. We can see him in these writings, and in the tools that were buried with him. Little did he know he would be brought back to life for us. There are probably more such mummies up in the Alps waiting to be discovered.
