A black bear and her two cubs are to be killed after the cubs broke into a home in Colorado Springs. The animals had to be coaxed out of the home, and tranquilized. Just the cubs broke into the home and not the mother, but all three will be killed.
The bears are in search of food, and they become dangerous when winter hibernation approaches. People should not feed the bears as this teaches them to get close to humans, and the idea is to keep the bears wild.
A homeowner reported
that at 11:18 a.m. she heard a "cute" bear cub in her kitchen. The Gazette.Com reports, "She approached the cub and got within four feet of it when the cub reached up and opened the screen door to let another cub into the kitchen."
Then, she saw the mother bear, and the neighbor's dog. The dog started barking, and then the trouble really started. Burks saved the dog putting it in her bedroom,  but the house was trashed. The homeowner Burks was able to escape, save the dog, and get help from police.
It's a shame the bears have to be killed. It's still unclear as to why the bears have to be euthanized.

Who don't they live-trap them, and re-locate them away from humanity?
We had a man from my area killed just a few weeks back by a bear that went crazy in a campground out west. (was by Grand Teton NP I believe)
She had her two cubs with her, but she was the one that went into the tent and killed the man, and so she was euthanized and her two cubs were sent to a zoo (in Montana I believe)
here's a link to the story for anyone interested.
(I just can't let these things rest once I get on to them)
Once they get used to human food, they're fairly useless.

"Michael Seraphin, spokesman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, said wildlife officials had no choice but to kill the bears.
Neighbors said the bears had milled around the neighborhood before, Seraphin said. One homeowner said the bears once entered his garage and broke into his freezer, Seraphin said.
Relocating the bears was also not an option, Seraphin said, as the bears would likely just find another house to raid.
“Well once they start exhibiting that behavior of getting into human habitation, that’s an indication they’ll continue to do that,†Seraphin said. “Relocating them was not an option.â€"
That seems to be the overwhelming consensus.
If they were endangered, the demand to save them would be much higher and they would likely be saved.
We see a bear in our back yard in WI just about everyday. We have twin cubs here and just down the road there is a mother with 4 cubs. They hang out by the apple trees a coupe of miles from us. None of our neighbors leave their bird feeders out overnight and in fact a few of them have stopped feeding the birds completely.
In MN we had a bear repeatedly break into our chicken coop and eat the feed but we haven't had any visit us lately.
We have to remember that the animals are losing their territory and when we get in the way it is not going to be a good thing.
Every wild animal can't be saved.
We had a bear that was quite smart in a matter of minutes. We had forgotten to take our trash down to a secure site and left it in the back of our truck. We awoke to a bear denting a tool box and ripping things apart looking for more eats after he had gotten all the trash he wanted. The bear had just come out of hibernation.
Low and behold after our shot gun scared it away; we received a phone call 20 minutes later. Our neighbors said they wanted to warn us that the bears were out of hibernation, and that in their 20 years living there, they had NEVER seen a bear crawl into the back of their truck. Who'd figure?
That year the bears were ripping garage doors off to get at food and much more. A wild out of control bear can do much damage and the moher had obviously taught her cubs where the grub was. It IS very sad we have taken up so much of their habitat, which leads to troubles such as your article states.
Learning to safe guard your homes by getting RID of STINKY TRASH and sealing anything that sends out the good smell, IS the way to safe guard your home and HELP PROTECT BEARS. DOG and CAT FOOD send a smell out for miles and bulk should be in a sealed can as many people keep it in their garages.
