Cody Posey, the 14-year-old boy who viciously killed his father, his stepmother, and his stepsister on newsman Sam Donaldson’s ranch, is set to be released on Saturday, his 21st birthday.
The reason?
Posey was sentenced as a juvenile offender so the state cannot hold him past his 21st birthday.
Posey was arrested on July 7, 2004 for the shooting deaths of his family. Their decomposing bodies were found underneath a manure pile on the Chavez Canyon Ranch in Hondo, New Mexico. The Posey family worked on this ranch which is owned by former ABC News anchor, Sam Donaldson.
Posey admitting doing the deed, but he claimed that years of physical and psychological abuse drove him to do it. (At his trial, many witnesses confirmed Posey’s claims of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of his father.)
At his trial, Posey even took the stand in his own defense, detailing the horrific abuse that he had endured up to—and including—the day that he “snapped†and killed the three members of his family.
But for a 14-year-old boy who had snapped and killed his family, Posey was awfully cunning.
According to CNN:
“In his confession, Posey admitted that after burying the bodies in the manure pile, he tried to stage the scene to look like a burglary. He said he took the family’s pickup truck and visited friends, where he spent the night, lying about where his family was.â€
It was, ironically, hard news reporter Donaldson who discovered the scene of the crime. Donaldson found a lot of congealed blood and bloody marks (where the bodies had been dragged) inside the house and called police.
Although Posey was convicted of all three murders, the judge sentenced him as a juvenile.
Do you think that Posey should get a second chance at freedom now that he is an adult? Â Â Â
