A Nebraska Teen mom made headlines months ago for her duct-taping her toddler to the wall for fun. It sparked outrage over the photos that surfaced online, but justice has been served. The woman, Jayla Hamm, an 18-year-old, has now been reunited with her 22-month-old son, in the wake of sentencing that was given to her and her boyfriend just last month.
The New York Daily News shows several of these disturbing images. One shows the toddler's arms stuck to the wall with several strips of green duct tape. The next image shows his sippy-cup duct taped up on the wall and the toddler trying to reach for it. Jayla Hamm and her boyfriend Corde Honea were behind the incident. Apparently, Jayla held the baby's arms while Corde did the taping. The couple claims they did it as a joke to show off the photos to friends for laughs. Hamm and Honea certainly aren't laughing behind bars.
A report over at action3news.com reveals a video interview with the mother and further details on this incident's aftermath. The toddler was put into state custody once those photos surfaced of the duct-taping incident, but reports have surfaced that Jayla Hamm has custody once again. Hamm has reported the boy is in foster care though. There's an investigation going on into a separate case to see if she should continue to get custody though.
Wondering about the justice served part? Hamm received just ten days in jail which she got to serve over the course of five weekends. She also received two years probation. Her boyfriend got the stiffer sentence with 36-60 months of prison for intentional child abuse. Hamm is set to finish up her time in about three weeks. She's also in a plea agreement which requires her to seek drug counseling and to testify as a witness against her boyfriend in a weapons trial. Wow!
With all this information, it seems like maybe this child should stay in foster care at least until Jayla Hamm has cleaned up her act. The fact she and her boyfriend were duct taping their kid to the wall and showing off photos as a joke is quite disturbing and reflects on their poor parenting abilities. MTV's "Teen Mom" is probably on the phone trying to book them for a Season of their reality show at this moment.
What do you think, should Jayla Hamm get custody of the toddler, or should she wait some time before that happens?
