A woman in England called the police when her snowman was stolen. People call the police for dumb reasons all the time, but this lady may take the cake. Calling emergency numbers with non-emergencies is a crime, and the police are not happy with this woman's abuse of an important lifeline to those in actual danger.
Â
The woman from Chatham called 999, the equivalent of 911 in the US, when she noticed her little snowman had been stolen from her front yard. “I went outside for a fag and he's gone,†said the woman to an emergency operator. Imagine if someone had been calling about an actual emergency, and couldn't get though because of this line being busy? The police are very upset about this call and have chastised the woman for abusing the service. “We do have powers to prosecute people for misusing the 999 system, but in this case the woman genuinely thought this was a theft and she should report it,†said Chief inspector Simon Black.
Â
This stolen snowman was actually worth something.
Â
The snowman reported as stolen was more than just a few lumps of snow. He was made with pound coins for eyes and teaspoons for his arms. So in all fairness, a very small theft did take place, just nothing worthy of calling 999 about. This woman honestly believed that a stolen snowman was a theft worth reporting. However, next time she may think twice before calling the police.

And most police have numbers for non emergency issues.
it seemed that once they realized it was a joke (or something that should have been a joke) they stopped taking it seriously and sent officers out just to reprimand her.
