Elisa Baker, the stepmother of murdered and dismembered North Carolina girl Zahra Baker, was indicted Tuesday on one count of bigamy. She is accused of marrying Zahra's father, Adam Baker, while still married to her previous husband.
According to FOXNews, Elisa Baker has been in prison since shortly after Zahra was reported missing by her father on October 9. Baker is charged with obstruction of justice for writing a bogus ransom note to throw investigators off the trail.
Elisa Baker told a relative who visited her in jail last week that Zahra Baker died of natural causes, and that after she died, she was dismembered and her body disposed of in various locations. No arrest has yet been made in the case.
Friends and family members told police after Zahra went missing that she had been abused at the hands of Elisa Baker. Others said that Elisa Baker manipulated Zahra's father Adam Baker. They said Adam was "slow" and the kind of person who could be easily manipulated.
The Bakers lived in a trailer park in North Carolina for a while. They had a neighbor whom Elisa introduced to Adam and Zahra as her cousin, but he wound up being her husband. She was never divorced from him when she went to Australia and married Adam Baker, after meeting him online.
The whole Zahra Baker story is one of heartbreak, deception and manipulation. It is just horrible that the little girl who survived two bouts with cancer, wore a prosthetic leg and two hearing aids would meet the horrific fate that Zahra met. It is unfathomable how anyone could hurt a child. What happened to Zahra Baker exceeds the most heinous of imaginations. Those responsible deserve the harshest of punishments allowable by law.

It is so sad that this child had to suffer so much...at least she is with God, not ever going to suffer again... I imagine her in Jesus's arms and him wiping away her tears.
