The police had to break up a fight at the Greater New Zion Baptist Church in Fletcher, North Carolina. If you ever thought your church or temple council meetings were boring, this is probably not the kind of thing to do to liven them up.
The brawling was so bad, they had to call in 30 officers from five different local agencies to break up the fights Sunday evening, according to FOX Carolina. Authorities say the brawl was a dispute over leadership.
The Greater New Zion Baptist Church fights broke out over the recent ouster of their last pastor, Rev. LeVonia Ray.
Police were called in to break up the more than spirited debate over whether he should be reinstated.
Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt. No charges have been filed yet, as the fight is still being investigated by the police.
Nothing is being said about why Rev. LeVonia Ray was fired by Greater New Zion Baptist Church.
The fine folks of Fletcher, NC who attend that church ought to be ashamed of themselves for how they're arguing his dismissal, though.
Having the police show up to break up a fight over their ex-pastor has got to be a low point in that church's history. Hopefully, the time to heal and discuss matters with the authorities will give them time to decide how to politely handle their leadership dispute.
