A reporter from Egypt has died in the hospital. The journalist was shot last week. Ahmed Mohammed Mahmoud, 36, died of gunshot wounds in a Cairo hospital.
The reporter is the first journalist killed in the Egyptian clashes over President Hasni Murbarak stepping down. It appears that the White House has received reports over systematic targeting of reporters in Egypt.
The death of Mahmoud comes after a week of many U.S. journalists being attacked in Cairo. CNNÂ’s Anderson Cooper was attacked two days in a row, and two Fox News reporters are hospitalized after they were injured in assaults.
Sadly, Mahmoud was actually photographing the protests from his homeÂ’s balcony. He lived near Tahrir Square. While he was taking pictures, he was shot by a sniper. This is unbelievable! It appears as if the government police do not want the story to get out to the rest of the world. There is no doubt that Egypt is a dangerous place to be a journalist right now, and it is terrible that one reporter from Egypt has lost his life.
