Nancy Pelosi was briefly hospitalized in Rome, Italy, on Monday, after reportedly "feeling unwell" earlier in the day. The House Minority Leader (who turns 71 on Saturday) spent a couple of hours being checked out in the hospital's ER before she went back to her hotel. What was wrong? ABC News reports that one Italian news agency described Pelosi as having a "fainting spell."
While the story certainly sounds alarming, Representative Nancy Pelosi took to her Twitter account to let everyone know she was okay, Tweeting, "Thanks to everyone for your well wishes-had a very productive trip to Afghanistan and am in Italy resuming meetings now." Her office also issued an official statement, noting that Pelosi wasn't "feeling well" after "several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning."
The important thing to note here is that Nancy Pelosi herself says she's okay and heading back to work. It does sound like between the initial trip to Italy on Friday (which she took along with several other members of a Congressional delegation) and then the flying to and from Afghanistan on Sunday and this morning, that she might have overdone things a bit.
