While the Central Intelligence Agency was hunting across the Middle East for America's most hated man, it seems Christiane Amanpour knew where Osama bin Laden was hiding all along.
The woman now host of ABC network's This Week, stated she knew high-level intelligence people who believed the world's top terrorist was living large in Pakistan.
"I just talked to somebody very knowledgeable ... [who]thinks that he's in a villa, a nice comfortable villa," she said in 2008 on HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher, according to Time. "A villa in Pakistan. Not a cave."
Amanpour is completely our of her element as the host of This Week, and is renowned for her America bashing, but she is a strong journalist who likely does have sound contacts inside the United States intel community. If she was privy to this type of information, and she sounds pretty confident in this segment, it raises important questions about how much our government has known about bin Laden's location.
The most disconcerting aspect of Amanpour's comments is the date. She said this in October of 2008, before Barack Obama was even elected to the presidency. If the American government has known for three years that bin Laden was living this life of leisure, why did it take so long to act? For a related story on the search for bin Laden, click here.
