Authorities got a huge shock in a fake alligator shooting. The owner had bought the stone gator to help protect his property, but he never thought it would end up getting "killed."
The fake alligator shooting happened in Independence just outside Kansas City, Missouri. Police were called about a large alligator on the bank of a pond. After getting the all clear from state conservation agent, officers actually shot at the would-be gator. It must have been a huge surprise when the scary critter turned out to be made of cement.
That's right, the alligator was a simple lawn ornament meant to keep children safely away from the pond. This mistake turned out to be funny, but it is good that the authorities took the threat seriously because an alligator loose in a residential area could've caused some issues. You just never know what people may be keeping as a pet.
Can you believe that the fake alligator fooled so many people? If it's so realistic, it seems like it must do a great job at keeping children out of the owner's pond.

Not exactly the habitat of alligators.
Didn't they notice that it wasn't moving before they started shooting at it?
i.e. Each patrolman is issued one bullet which must be kept in patrolmans shirt pocket until senior officer gives the okay to load into handgun.
