For 41 years, Lula Cora Hood has been missing. Police believed the mom was dead. Now, however, they believe she is alive. What a bizarre twist for this case.
Grace Kivisto actually attended the memorial service for her mother Lula Cora Hood in
1996. Now the woman said she is "in shock" over the surprising turn of events. The story started in 1970 when Hood disappeared during a family feud. The mother of 14 suffered from mental illness, and she left many times, but usually returned. This time, she didn't.
Finally, in 1996, police told the family they found human remains that they believed were Lula Cora Hood, so the family buried them and held a memorial for their mother. In 2009, police ran a DNA test on the remains they found and DNA from the missing mom, and found that the remains did not belong to Hood.
Because the results came back as not a match, police looked into Hood's disappearance, and it led them to an 84-year-old woman living in Florida. What a crazy turn of events. Kivisto said, "I'm going to see her as soon as I can. I can't believe it!"
There are obviously plenty of questions to be answered like why did Hood disappear and never contact her family? Also, whose remains did the police find in 1996? Perhaps these will be answered in coming months.
