A Florida man shot at a venomous snake that was slithering on his porch in an attempt to kill it. Unfortunately for the man, Garrett Bauernschmidt, 75, he missed and on his second attempt, he shot one of his finger clean through.
Bauernschmidt was
inside his house on Thursday afternoon when his caretaker went in and informed his that a large water moccasin snake was on the front porch. In an obvious attempt to play hero, the man used birdseed to load his .38 caliber Derringer handgun and went outside to kill himself a snake. Once on the porch, Bauernschmidt shot once at the snake but missed. He tried again and ended up accidentally shooting through his left index finger. The injury was not life threatening.
Unfortunately for this elderly man, the snake got away and he ended up looking a bit foolish. The good news is Florida officers have closed the case and are not going to charge anyone with a crime. When something like this happens, you can only chuckle and thank the powers that be that no one was seriously injured by the snake or the gun.
