Amanda Knox probably saw this one coming, but the family of Meredith Kercher isn't going to let her appeal go easily. It seems that the girl has a lawsuit coming her way, and she might not win it.
Sources report that the parents of the slain Meredith Kercher are going to sue Amanda Knox. Even though she was released from the prison in Perugia and cleared of the woman's murder, her parents aren't going to let justice escape their dead daughter. The facts of the matter is that there was plenty of evidence to convict and put Amanda away for a very long time, and even though some mistakes were made and other people were involved doesn't mean she deserved to win that appeal. It's good that the dead woman's parents are taking this in their hands and taking Foxy Knoxy's tail to civil court.
It will probably be easier to convince a civil court judge to see things their way; especially if they display a rundown of Amanda's behavior early in the investigation of their daughter's murder and sexual assault. Amanda Knox is reported to have done cartwheels in the police department, acting strangely. It's also a strange fact that Amanda insisted on taking a shower before the police arrived at the flat she shared with Kercher, as the slain student lay dead.
If Meredith's parents win this lawsuit, they can be rewarded over 7 million pounds. Let's see if Amanda's parents can afford that; otherwise, she might want to take Vivid Entertainment up on their job offer. Hell, maybe they can offer Casey Anthony a job and the two of them can hash things out together for the big bucks.

One more point, it will be interesting to see if the Italian justice system now holds off on the coming appeal to see the outcome of this new move. And then once justice is done in Britain in the civil court then we could see her back in Italy and this time staying in Italy for far longer than the 26 years. This is all superposition we have to extradite her first and I believe the USA will try to block our every move to get her on our soil. However we do have an agreement that says US citizens can be fast tracked to our soil, the same as our citizens can be fast tracked to US soil, we have not used it yet but the US has used this system to good effect on our citizens, now its our turn.
Then they should just drop it and not let another 4 years of drama drag on and on. This doesn't look good for the Kerchers; they've already been awarded about five million total, and the father has a book deal coming about. Amanda, rightfully so, needs the money because her family went completely broke trying to pay for all of the legal fees. If I was wrongfully imprisoned for 4 years of my life, I would damn well want some monetary compensation.
Also, to think that she will be extradited in any type of way is completely insaine. It wont happen. Everyone wants to move on with their lives; this trail was a mess and a mistake from the beginning. The best way that meredith can be remembered at this point is not through the media, but by people just moving on with the knox case.
Where have you heard this from? All we have heard over in the UK is that Knox is thinking of giving some of the proceeds to the Kercher's and I can find no mention of £ 5 million already given to the family.
If you think that this obnoxious liar of a girl has had nothing at all to do with this murder you are deluding yourselves. No one but no one when being taken in for questioning does cartwheels and somersaults and jokes just a few hours after supposedly finding her very dear friend dead with her throat slashed. No one unless guilty of murder takes a shower next to the room of her very dear friend that she has just found with her throat slashed lying in a pool of blood. Meredith's father who spoke to her the day that she was murdered is perplexed in the statement given out by Knox that she was a very good and dear friend of Meredith as the week before she told him that she could not stand Knox, yet another lie by a master liar.
Lets look at the evidence.
1. The confession.
Knox confessed that she was in the house on the night of the murder and that she heard Kercher scream, identifying a Congolese bar owner, Patrick Lumumba, as the assailant. She told the court during the trial that the confession was made under duress but then repeated the entire account in a five page memorandum the next morning.
2. The false accusation.
The prosecution said the fact that Knox falsely accused Lumumba of being the killer was a sign of her own guilt and an attempt to throw them off her trail. He was arrested in a dawn raid by armed police and spent two weeks in jail. It was only by chance that a Swiss businessman read about the case and came forward to say he had been talking to Lumumba in his bar on the night of the murder — offering him a rock-solid alibi. Lumumba says Knox nearly ruined his life and is suing her for defamation.
3. The alibi.
Sollecito could not back up Knox’s alibi for the night of the murder.
She claimed she spent the evening with him, smoking marijuana, watching the French film “Amelie” and having sex. But Sollecito told police he could not remember if Knox was with him that evening.
Even assuming his memory was hazy because of the drugs, it seemed odd that a man who had just embarked on a new relationship could not recall whether or not he had spent the night with his girlfriend.
4. Computer and telephone records.
Sollecito claimed he used his computer to download and watch cartoons and “Amelie.” But computer experts told the court that there was no activity on his laptop between 9:10 p.m. on Nov. 1, and 5:32 a.m. the next morning — the time frame in which the murder took place.
Knox and Sollecito turned off their mobile phones on the night of the murder beginning at around 8:40 p.m. and turned them back on at around 6 a.m., inviting further suspicion from prosecutors.
5. The staged break-in.
A bedroom belonging to one of Kercher’s Italian flatmates was ransacked on the night of the murder, with a window smashed by a rock. But police said the break-in was staged — broken glass from the window was found on top of clothes scattered on the floor, suggesting the window was broken after the room was messed up. Prosecutors accused Knox and Sollecito of staging the break-in to make the killing look like a burglary that had turned into rape and murder.
I will give her the benefit of the doubt over if she was holding the knife that cut the throat of Meredith. But that girl knows exactly what happened that night as she was in that room, but like the cunning liar she is she has told lie after lie and only the guilty do that.
That girl deserves nothing and neither do any of the family that have gone out of their way to muddy the waters and get their girl home. Everyone of them deserves the utmost contempt that we can give them
alerra v who has given a link to the book deal.
Have you ever heard of JonBenét Ramsey? She was a little girl, from America, who was killed in her home on Christmas Day, 1996. Her murder was never solved. In 2006, a new suspect named John Mark Karr abruptly confessed to the crime. He went into great detail about the murder, but his confession didn't match the specifics of the crime scene, and most importantly his DNA did not match the samples located at the scene. Later it was determined that he committed the crime for, amongst other things, the attention. Confessions don't guarantee guilt.
(and yes, the kerchers have filed civil suits which mounts to about a million USD per person -- i'm pretty sure that came from tax payer money though).
First off, there's been reason to believe that Amanda is on the Autism spectrum, which would explain A LOT of things including her facial expressions, lack of emotion, gullibility, and false confession. As someone said below, just because a person confesses in some way, does not make them guilty. Though weather it's because she has a wild imagination, or was actually interrogated by police for 12 hours and pushed around by them, we will never know.
Ever hear of Jessie Misskelley? He was a 12 year old from west memphis with severe mental issues that "confessed" to three brutal murders after being interrogated by police, and also named two accomplices that were "with him." The jury convicted all three of them with NO DNA EVIDENCE, but rather with just jessies "confesison" and they spent 20 years behind bars before being acquitted. (oh and the police also had a wild theory that this happened because the boys were having a *satanic orgy* --- huh, what a coincidence, when police lack evidence, somehow the conclusion is drawn that it's all because of a satanic ritual! crazy!)
So, yeah, that knocks out your first and second points. It's absolutely not valuble proof.
The alibi? Perhaps Rafaele wanted to completely distance himself from the situation because he saw how out of hand it was getting, or he didn't want to get in trouble for doing drugs...again, this is not proof.
There was no evidence of computer records because the cops tampered with it (like they did with many other things). I turn my phone off every night because I don't want friends or family calling me late. I don't see how this adds up to their guilt.
"But police said the break-in was staged"
^ you mean like how the police also said there was a satanic orgy ritual? Please, do just keep going on and on about how *reliable* the police's theories were on this supposed "staged" break-in.
Where is this mountain of evidence? The prosecution's entire case against Knox and Sollecito depended on TWO (2) pieces of evidence. 1) A kitchen knife found in Sollecito's apartment which the prosecution said had Knox's DNA on the handle and Kercher's DNA on the blade. Yet when the knife was re-tested under the appointment of the trial's new Judge, Kerher's DNA turned out to be rye bread. 2) The bra-clasp with Sollecito's DNA on it. The bra clasp sat in a pile of trash at the crime scene for a month and a half before one of the crime scene technicians picked it up and tested it. However the CST was handling it with dirty gloves that had come in contact with other things containing Sollecito's DNA. The concept of cross-contamination is bolstered by the fact that four different DNA signatures were present on the clasp when it was tested.
Rudy Guede committed the crime. He admitted to being at Kercher's apartment. Her stolen possessions (including money) were found on him when was arrested in Germany, after fleeing the country. His bloody foot and handprints, along with copious amounts of DNA littered the crime scene. His story changed constantly: first Amanda and Sollecito weren't there, and then they were, and then he wasn't, and then he was again, and then.....
If Kercher's family really wants to get $12 Million, either sign up for a book deal themselves or sue the man responsible for the crime (Guede) and the man who cut his sentence in half (Mignini).

Read my comment above as I cant be bothered to write it all out again. If I ever commit a murder could you please sit on the jury for me I am sure that you would find me not guilty.

Stop pretending to be a reporter if all you're doing is reporting gossip heard second hand from other sources reporting on tabloids!!!!
Yes, Amanda Knox is guilty of turning cartwheels and having pretty blue eyes. She paid for that with 4 years in jail.
A new civil case, especially if it is filed in Seattle will allow for a counter suit against the plaintiff. It's not necessarily a slam dunk. A civil case is a double edged sword. The courts could refuse any evidence the appeals court threw out (50% of Italian cases are reversed or tossed on appeal). Had this case been tried in the UK or US, the defendants never would have gone to trial. The prosecution would have gone after Rudy Guede.
He was a drug addict, drifter, and a burglar who had met some of the guys who live in the flat downstairs. His mo per arrest history was to carry a large knife on him when committing crimes. His dna was found inside the victim and around the crime scene. He tracked blood from her bedroom through the front door. The criminal felt so bad about the incident he went and partied at a disco. The next night, hearing the police were investigating the case, he left for Germany. Justice has been served and the sole murderer of the victim is behind bars.
Whether Amanda Knox or her boyfriend killed Meredith Kercher, may never be known. To imprison two people for the rest of their lives because if circumstantial evidence, at best, to bring closure to a grieving family is NOT just. DNA evidence is a key factor in criminal cases for a reason--it's scientific, not emotional. This case was built around fantastical stories from the prosecution and feelings that "she didn't behave like I would", "it was 'weird' to me", "it was strange", or "she was premiscuous". Really? How many of you had a roommate that was brutally murdered in the worst way imaginable?! Oh-and "premiscuity" being linked to being a murderer? Crazy. That comes from the same school of thought that "a girl deserves to be raped if she has had multiple partners before"...
NO DNA evidence was found against these two people. NONE. But, A LOT was found on Mr. Guede! If this man was convicted on his admission alone, I would hard-pressed to believe it based on the way Amanda's "confession" was obtained. But, he was not convicted on that alone. He was convicted on DNA evidence and his possession of her belongings. Read what Brian wrote here about the evidence or lack of. There are international rules to gathering this DNA evidence and they were not followed in this case. The two key pieces of evidence supposedly linking the defendents to this crime.. the knife that didn't even match the puncture marks and, after DNA testing, found no DNA of Meredith's on it, just bread. BREAD! and a bra clasp that sat on a dusty floor for weeks and was cross contiminated before landing there and then was tested. And the confession..the confession that was NOT TAPED. Who knows how that was really obtained. Was she beaten or not? Well--being that she was not issued a lawyer, interpreter and it was not taped, who would know? There have been plenty of cases done on people who confess after hours of interrogation, even being innocent! After hours of no sleep, drink, food, you easily become delusional. Who's to say? Why don't you put yourself in her shoes? Isn't there a possibility that she was in shock, confused, and believed that the truth would come out? Isn't it possible she was terrified..all of the sudden being surrounded by authorities accusing you, but not knowing what they are saying..possibly getting slapped on top of it? And-her accusing Patrick Lumumba? She states it was suggested to her by police towards the end of her interrogation and through her delusional mind--said yes, but then tried to retract it in the morning when she was rested and alert. AND-maybe this poor man wouldn't have lost his livelihood if Italian police did proper interrogation and allowed the guy a PHONE CALL. He could have cleared it up that day!!!! Right?
So they turned off their phones? Really? Wow! They must have done it. How many people turn off their phones before they go to bed, watch a movie, whatever, and then turn them back on in the morning. They're young lovers..maybe they wanted uninterrupted time together. Why would turning off their phones make them guilty? It doesn't even make sense. Anything was suspicious to the prosecution it seems. Oh- and because there was glass on top of the clothing, the window was broken after the room was ransacked.. or could it be that these young people were typical young people, and left their clothes all over the floor anyway?-and therefore had glass on top instead of underneath? The "fact" that Meredith could not stand Knox? Girls get in arguments all the time..especially girls from very different backgrounds/countries rooming together. What I understand is they had only known each other a short time. Opinions may be formed fast. So-Amanda is a liar because she felt a connection that Meredith didn't? And so Sollecito couldn't say for sure that she was there all night. He said they were together that evening, but can't be certain during the night... because he was sleeping!!! Again--circumstantial and unfounded. Beyond a reasonable doubt? NO.
I'm also sick of hearing about "Americans", "Britains","Italians"..like it's country vs country. The fact is, a beautiful young innocent girl was brutally murdered by a sick man who was convicted and very lightly sentenced, a young couple lost four years of their lives unjustly on no evidence, a family lost someone they loved dearly in a way they will never fully recover from no matter how many law suits, and a prosecutor who has a history of making up fanciful stories to convict people still has a job. Hopefully the Italian justice system will learn something from all this so that in the future a victim's family can have full closure and innocent lives aren't destroyed in the process.
As far as the book deal--it's called "freedom of speech". Amanda and the Kercher family both have their rights to write whatever they want, just as the tabloids wrote whatever they wanted to. Unfortunately, Meredith isn't hear to write what really happened and all that will ever be written are opinions and personal experiences, but not facts about the actual event.
Brian J.-right on with your comments.
Graham L.- "If I ever commit a murder could you please sit on the jury for me I am sure that you would find me not guilty." Let it be known- if you are ever ACCUSED of a crime, I do hope you are not tried in society before it goes to a court judged by jurors that are not sequestered and read stories written by people like Ms. Hoffman. And I do hope that the crime doesn't take place while you are lying next to your sleeping wife. :)
I can't wait to see what Amanda Knox will bring to this world after her journey through this. After the dignity and grace with which she carried herself throughout - and she's only 24 years old!!! - I can't even imagine how high she will soar in bringing justice as an advocate to people unlawfully interrogated, unlawfully arrested, unlawfully persecuted by lying, "face-saving" prosecutors. She'll bring justice to women sexually/emotionally harassed while being falsely imprisoned. She will bring freedom to many innocent people. The world has been introduced to an incredibly resilient, intelligent, compassionate, loving, empathetic, strong, courageous and brave young woman who is going to blow the lid off her own circumstances in order to help others. Wow.
If the Kercher's initiate a civil trial, it would have to take place in Italy, the site of the so-called civil infraction.
During such a trial, Meredith's behavior would be open to question and scrutiny. The fact that the police lab determined that Mez was beyond drunk would come out.
Who Mez was having sex with would be public, the entire list of British and Italian studs.
And importantly, the fact that Mez was tending a large marijuana indoor grow operation would come out.
Dr. Luca Lalli's comments that Mez was not raped would call into question her innocence (or lack of innocence).
Let's not examine this girl too closely. Ignore that she was a vampire for The Night of the Dead and could fill in at bar tender with her own special and famous mind-numbing concoctions.
Let us let her rest under the presumption of goodness and light, just the way her God sees her. Kercher's, don't attempt to sell this image for 7 millions pounds.
Give Knox privacy and RIP Mez. Keep the real and only killer (Rude) in Capanne Prison for more than 16 years. Punish the guilty, not the innocent.
