Why do these ignorant bigots still think they can get away with crap like this? This can only end one of two ways. Either they cave on their own accord or the ACLU gets involved and makes them do the right thing. In any case every single person involved in getting this poor kid suspended and kicked off the cheer squad should be out of a job and out on the streets begging for change.

First of all let me say I am straight. Then if you have ever been to Alice, Texas you could perhaps understand why such a decision was made. Let's just say that part of Texas is cowboy boots and pick up trucks. I am not saying what was done is right or wrong, what I am saying is if you understood the culture around Alice then you would have a better understanding why such a decision was made.

I actually couldn't care less why the decision was made or what their culture is, bigotry is bigotry.

Not trying to be rude, but only using this as an example ... if you ridicule those who like bull riding, hunting, fishing, or ranching then in their eyes you would be a bigot. One persons standards from one area of the country may not be the same as those in another area of the country.

Ridiculing someone's hobby is a little different from ridiculing someone's bigotry and discriminatory school policies.

Ok I am assuming this is a college campus. I know in our high school you could be fined if you were caught kissing. I remember a girl who got married when she was 16 kissed her boyfriend goodbye between glasses just a peck and she got in trouble. If it is something like that the school has a policy against then I think they should view the cameras all the time and everyone that does it should be in trouble not JUST the gay guys :(

The article says that it was a high school. Anyway they should mind their own damn business. Nobody is being hurt by two people kissing, gay or straight. If that is their policy (no kissing) I don't think they should start enforcing it for everyone, I think they should stop making up stupid policies and mind their own business.

Finally our society has shown a little morals!

Sweety pie, you need to reconsider your definition of morals. Not too long ago it was immoral to show two people sitting on a bed on TV. Interracial marriage was immoral. African American men were hanged just for talking to a white woman. It could be that the greatest immorality is denying a segment of the population their human rights.

Morality is discriminating against someone for who they are? In that case I would rather be immoral. If moral means following the teachings of a 2,000 year old book that says being gay is an abomination but selling your daughter into slavery is ok I don't want to be moral.

In all honesty Angela I really don't think you're a bad person, you're probably a really good person. I'm sure you generally treat others the way you want to be treated, and I doubt you would ever sell your daughter into slavery or stone your unruly child to death. I'm sure that in alot of ways your morals are very similar to my own.

The difference is you claim to get your morals from the bible, and I know that's not true. Sure there are some good moral teachings in the bible, but there are also some really evil teachings in the same book. If you truly got your morality from the bible you would follow it to the letter, and you would probably be serving a life sentence in prison right now.

The fact is that just like every American christian, you pick and choose what parts of the bible to take seriously. You follow the teachings of Jesus (who by the way never said a word about homosexuality) but ignore the parts about forcing a rape victim to marry her rapist and killing gay people. You don't get your morals from the bible, you get your morals from your own mind.

You know that it's wrong to kill people not because the bible said thou shalt not kill, but because you know you wouldn't want someone to kill you. You know that stealing is wrong because you wouldn't want someone stealing your property, not because the bible said thou shalt not steal. I'm almost certain that you're more moral than the authors of the bible.

If the absurdity of this person saying that about morals eludes everyone, let me remind you that this is the same society who allows its own government to go overseas indiscriminately murder countless innocent men, women, and children under the pretext that its protecting them.

This is the same society does nothing to stop them from doing that because they are too busy sitting on their fat asses watching TV to be bothered by any of this. Morals?? Americans as a society have no biz utilizing the word "moral."

Well obviously I'm not saying anything about the morals of those in power in our country, just my own. When George W. Bush sent our troops over seas to indiscriminately murder men, women, and children he obviously didn't give half a crap what the American people had to say about it.

If we are suppose to be so accepting of gays then gays need to step up and live by all laws and customs and not a la cart what they want and don't want and cry foul when things don't go their way!!! If gays want respect then earn it!!!! Let me see you really for all rights not just what you want!!! In public, I'm not allowed to shower with my girlfriend or share a dorm room with her, however, gays can do both!!! You want justice then give justice and stop calling people bigots just because they disagree with you life style!!!

She has a right to her opinion, but if she thinks it is right for a certain group of people to be denied the same rights everyone else has (marriage, hospital visitation, adoption, I could go on) then she is by definition a bigot. I really don't care if she got her opinion from a book that the majority of Americans consider to be holy, her opinion on homosexuality is bigoted. But I don't care one bit what she believes, what bothers me is when people who believe like her push for legislation enforcing their immoral form of morality on everyone else. If you think homosexuality is wrong the solution is as simple as you not marrying or having sex with someone who has the same parts as you. There is no need to force it on everyone else by legislation.

P.S. If you actually read my post you would know I wasn't bullying her, in fact I concluded that she is more moral than the god she worships. She doesn't take the bible as 100% truth, she (for the most part) picks out the good parts and ignores the rest. For instance I think it's safe to assume she wouldn't advocate a rape victim being forced to marry her rapist as commanded in Deuteronomy 22:28-29.

The article does not say weather or not there is a school rule about kissing. I can only guess that there is because the boy was suspended from school itself. As a thinking adult I find it very hard to believe that he is the only one guilty of this indiscretion, and it begs the question has anyone else ever been suspended from this school for breaking that rule?

Until someone provides an answer to that question, we won't know how odd it is that this particular fellow was suspended. IF this is an isolated incident then I would say that there is an ethical issue because public institutions of learning are not supposed to discriminate period.

Exactly. If this was a private christian school they would have the legal right to discriminate, but if we're talking about a public school funded by public tax dollars that's a different issue.

The boy was also kicked off the cheerleading squad. The high school has said the suspension and ejection from the team are being examined. Male cheerleader kissing another male leads to suspension. The suspended student, who is asking to not be identified, says he has been unfairly targeted, which violates the school’s anti-discrimination policy. Cheerleading squad members’ parents who spoke to the news media highlighted that a pregnant member of the cheerleading squad and a mother on the squad have not been suspended, and public displays of affection are common at the school. The student and his parents met with school administrators on Thursday, and the school is reviewing the suspension.

I live in South Texas - and the schools here have a policy about PDA's - PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION. Right or wrong - it is the school policy. Do I care - not really. How about giving the school a chance to respond - see what the outcome is.

I could see if he kissed the guys ASS right on the field or something...but maybe there is a legitimate reason. Let's hear all sides of the story before stumping for either side, yah? Yah.

It was Texas..the state still living in the 19th century...you have to expect that kind of treatment.
